The majority of the Ficht problems were with the pre 99, 175 and 150. Most of the 200hp had little trouble even in the dark ages of Evinrude.
Lane I have a 2000 22 ss no probs with hull , tell your buddy to get owner to let you and him test drive it. Like mine so much I'm gonna repower with 250 yammy with hydro-tec stuff. Very roomy boat too !!!
The 21 ss' are some of the true bargains to be had. Huge boat with great rough water capability. Speed is 68-70 with the 225 DI. Storage abounds and there's no wood in these.
We've sold 30 or so used ss' with the 225 FICHT's and haven't gotten the first one back blown. They are just like any other engine as far as breakdowns.....trim units, computers, fuel pumps......all can and do fail....on all brands.
