Need help with 150 Johnson Fastrike

I have a 1991 Johnson Fastrike that is giving me some trouble i just bought it about a month ago and the last three times i have taken it out which have been in the last 3 weeks it has been giving me trouble. It will run good at idle speed but when you push the hot foot and take off when it gets to about 40 mph or so it will feel like you are taking your foot off the hot foot then pushing it back down like it is loosing power in the motor. And today it was like it was just bogging down right out of the hole like it would start to take off and it would pull good then just bog down and you could hold the hot foot down and it would just not go. Does anyone know what might be causing this. Have i explained myself pretty good about what it has been doing. I also plugs were changed about a month ago and i changed the gas bulb thinking it was not working right. Thanks.

My 1st look would be into the vapor seperator. Clean, set float height, replace gasket and try again.

When it bogs down, push the key in and let the choke skeet some fuel in there. If it picks up, you have a fuel delivery propblem.

Sounds like the carburators need to be taken apart and have the new needles and seats put in the them.

Had the same sort of symptoms in my 92 150 intruder. It would lose about 1000 rpm and then pick right back up, and then lose it again. Replaced the power pack and all was good.

Before you go out and spend a bunch of money check a few simple things first. It really sounds like a fuel starvation problem so check the water separator, inline fuel filter and believe it or not the primer bulb. I would guess that if you run your engine at mid 3000 to 4000 rpms it humms but when you jump on it starts to bog down. I have a 90 175XP with a Hot Foot and it did it to me and it was the priming bulb, I took if off and looked through the tubes and saw that the valve was warp, changed it and it has been running great.

Sorry I read that after I wrote my comments. If none of the other items are bad and with your statement of the problem getting a bit worse it may be your power pack but I do not think so. I just rebuild my 175 and found two coils going bad I happen to fire it up when it just started to get dark and saw arcing but I was just lucky to spot it. Hope you find the problem and let us know.

If you run it out again before it goes to the shop, take someone with you and have them pump the primer bulb when this happens. If it helps, the fuel pump is in question. Also, try the choke trick as mentioned above..
