Beam and length of 2003 models

Okay I've looked here and there and info changes from site to site so maybe someone can tell me the actual info.

Beam and total length of the following:

    2003 201 Pro XL
    2003 21XL
    2003 ASX
    2003 200 Pro XL
    2004 200 Pro XL

Oh, and one more thing. Is the ride a bit wetter in the ASX than a 21XL? I've been in the 201's and know they are a pretty darn good dry ride that's why I'm narrowing it down to those other 2 models.

Re: Beam and length of 2003 models (dkwas)

    All 201's from '03 up are 20' 8" long with a 95" beam.

    All 200's from '03 up are 20' 1" long with a 95" beam.

The ASX came in at 20' 7" long with an 89" beam

I'll let someone else answer for the 21XL.

    21XL - 20'8" and 92" beam.

All of these boats ride and handle very well. The 200 will be a little faster (comparing 225 to 225) than the 201. The 200 lifts better than the 201.

You cannot go wrong with any of the boats on your list.

Great answers guys, that's exactly what I was looking for. Now here comes 1 more for ya. I would assume the ASX wouldn't be as stable as a 200 or 201 in rough water as it's really designed for speed? Am I correct in this assumption? I see 6" of difference in the beam and therefore in my limited knowledge would think it wouldn't be as forgiving as something with a wider beam? I would like a fast rig don't get me wrong however a lot of fishing I will be doing will be on Lake Erie. So if anyone can give me their opinion on which rig might fit the bill over another that would be great. I like the idea of an 80mph boat but I don't want to get the crap kicked out of me if I'm on Erie with the ASX and the waves start getting over 2 feet. I had a 97 201 previous and it did a pretty good job and I'm looking for something that is equal or better as well as giving me that speed.

    2 more questions is the 21XL a mid 70's boat (w/ a 225) like the 201? I read the 200 w/ a 225 is a high 70's, maybe 80 so that's why I asked about the 21XL.

And if the 21XL is a single console can a passenger console be added?

    Thanks.

I have not personally driven the ASX. The ones that have say it takes rough water very well. I would not think it would be as good as the 201 and 200. This would end up being something that you would have to try yourself to know the difference. Some prefer to go through the waves while others prefer to ride over them.

If you go with a 225 HP engine, the 200 will provide the best top speed (between the 201 and 200).

The 21XL does not have the modular consoles (cannot be added). The 21XL runs about the same top speed as the 201.

I would suggest you get with Todd at C&O to drive a 201, 200 and ASX (I think he has at least one in stock now).

    Kenneth,

That's exactly why I'm asking. I've been in contact with him on this and wanted other peoples input as well. I'm close to making a decision and looking for pro's & con's of each. I like the idea of having a dual console because of the folks that fish with me. If I had a single console rig I don't know they would like getting all wet as I like to go through waves. I also like having the glove box for my maps, cell phone, etc. and it gives the folks fishing with me something to hold on to when running on Erie. That being said I guess all I would be giving up with a 201 would be speed and that's not that big of a deal. And if I went with the 201 would gain more width and stability (IMO) in rough water. The ASX seems like a narrow boat based purely on the beam but who knows maybe it's stable even though it's 6" more narrow. Hard to tell unless your in the boat in those conditions. Then of course you throw in the 200 and you get a faster rig than the 201 with the same width. So it's kind of inbetween the 201 and the ASX as you get speed and stability as well as a dual console option. Well I guess I'll have to make up my mind now. Unfortunately Todd doesn't have a 2003 200 XL with a 225 Rude in the same price as the others or I think I'd have my mind made up already. Hmmm, what to do, what to do. Big problem to have huh? And the ASX is the same color as my Tahoe too. Guess I'll need to take a drive and see how they feel. Thanks for your input and if you have any other opinions please do share as I am very interested in everyone's opinions on this.

I know you said you're giving up speed with the 201, but if you fish Erie like you say, the 201 will run with anything. You're only giving up that speed in smooth water.

I've had a 200 Pro w/ 225 H.O. E-TEC and that boat was simply amazing. I ran it against Kenneth in his 201 one morning (working an on-water boat show, so we went early and had a mini-tourney----hard to remember who won that... ). Those two boats performed nearly identical until you get to the very top-end. I had 3 mph or so on him.

For me, my style of fishing, and the waters I fish, the 200 is just a perfect boat. You'll be happy with any of the three, just don't sell the 201 short on speed. It is a very fast 20+ foot boat. No matter which one you choose, you have already made the best decision you could by calling C&O.

You may also want to look into getting the center console/glove box added. This is a great place to put those things you listed for the second console glove box.
