    Performance/Handling Help

I have a 89 stratos with a 92 200xp, it has a 10" jackplate the motor is 5" high and I am at 3'' below the pad. When I'm trimmed all the way down at take off the motor is leaning way way back the discharge water (weep hole) is all most in the lake! but here is what I am most concerned about. Once I get on plain I have to trim it forever it seems like. Watching the water psi and keeping it at 15 the motor is tilted back towards me by the time any rooster tail is showing. I don't care about the rooster tail thing but that seem like way to much tilt is needed. Once more thing you can't hardly turn this thing at all unless you slow down to a crawl the boat slips on the water instead of turning ( and that's with me trimming down the whole time witch in turn is slowing me down) and im not talking about real fast turns just cruising speed. Anybody got any idea's please let me know.
I know my prop is Crap but is there other things to.
    Thanks

Most things you mentioned about the trim seem pretty normal to me. A negative trim or tucking the motor in under the boat is what helps the boat to get up on plane quicker and once your on plane you have to start trimming up to get the motor to lift the hull up and free it from all the drag the water creates. With a heavier hulled boat like a Stratos, it takes positive trim to lift the nose up and get as much boat as possible out of the water. Your motor is built so it wont let you over trim when on plane and you should be just about maxed out on your trim to get max speed out of your boat. So all this to me sounds like everything is fine.

As far as the sliding in turns this isn't normal for a Stratos. At least not a newer one and I don't think the old ones would do that either. If your prop is crap that is probly the cause. If its not getting a good bite than it could cause turning problems. Other than that just look is over and see if you see anything out of wack that could be messing with the turning. But I'd try a good prop and see if that cures it.

was gonna write a long thing but 1) get rid of the 10 plate stratos is made for 6-8" plates, 2) take the boat to a dealer or to the best person you can find and have them set it up with a smaller plate for you. 3) seat time and learn... driving a bass boat especially not a ranger takes both seat time and learning time since it is not a jump in drive it like a car every set up is different and every driver is also on how they want it. again take it to a dealer and have them remove the 10 " plate and put on a 6-8" plate and then set tihe boat up with say a 24 raker to start.

I was having a simular problem with turning my 90 strat when i first got it, took 2 hands and a foot on the wheel to turn while cruising. After a little seat time I found it was all in the trim, try playing with it till you find the stearing loosen up. On mine that is also were it gets the best top end. But then I only have a 6 inch plate. My motor also seams to sit a little low but not as low as yours. Hope that helps, good luck with your ride.
