    interested in buying javelin

have a question about buying a javelin.
interested in a 18ft jav. with a 115 johnson. how fast could i expect this boat to go?
would it dog on whole shot? should i look for 150's on 18ft fiberglass?

First off, welcome to the boards.

Depending on the year, I'm guessing you are looking at a Renegade 18???

If so, that boat is actually 17 1/2 foot and will do just fine with a 115. You will run over 50 mph and will get a decent holeshot and fuel mileage. That is actually a good combination.

Anything over 18 ft and I would recommend the 150.

I have a Javelin 379 SDC (17' 9") with a 115 on it and it gets a great hole shot and runs around 50 fully loaded. Can't imagine you need any more in a boat like this. Just got mine this past winter. Great boat!

I have a 2001 18 Venom with a johnson 150. The holeshot is great and it will run 61 with two people tourny loaded and full tank of gas.

Re: interested in buying javelin (massbaster#1)

thanks guys for the welcome and the info. new to the boards but not to boating.

    i have a 1989 stratos 269v (16 1/2) with a johnson gt100. first boat.
found out hard way it has a blown cylinder. no wonder i do 39 max and usually 35.
and it still ran better than 75% of the boats out there.

ran it 4 years in a league, 3 state fish offs(2 at winni, 1 at Ct. river hartford.) 1 year of opens in maine when i found out open the bad cylinder. rookie mistake not to check compression first time out. still got money worth out of it , had to replace tilt trim only.

ran it hard at winni no problems except getting lost and almost running out of 18 gallons.

anyhoo, been seeing the javelins for a good price and just wondering at what point do i really need to worry about getting the 150? anything 18 and up?

i am sure my boat would do closer to 50 had i 4 out of 4 cyls. running.

oh well, again thanks for the input.

    long story short huh?
