Sorry if this has been asked before, boat speeds between 200 XL and 201XL

I am looking at a 200 proXL with a Mercury 225XS and a 201proXL with a Mercury 250XS. I want comfort over speed so logic tells me to get the bigger boat as a bigger boat usually offers a better ride. BUT, I don't want to buy a boat that can't pass up a Ranger :) So these two rigs compare how for speed and ride?

They will both pass any Ranger.

These two boat and motor combinations will be very similar in top speed.

They both take rough water very well but the 200 has a little better lift creating a little lighter feel to it.

Either boat would make an excellent choice. Take them both out for a test drive and see for yourself.

    Kenneth,

You definitely will like the stratos ride I am currently running a strong 75 gps and will probably eek out just a little bit more. 201 for more storage and 200 for just a little bit more speed but either way, you can't go wrong. I ran 7 footers on lake michigan last summer and had no problems or worries. good luck

    Rondo,

I've been told the ProXS will run on top end as strong or stronger than the 225 ETEC HO. I've had mine up to 78.9 GPS and I know there's at least one to two more mph I could squeeze out of her if I lightened the load a tad. I've been running with no less than 1/2 tank of gas and my complete tackle selection every where I go.

I had a 225 ProXS on my last boat (Champion 198) and it was a strong performer. You should at least get the same as me and possibly a 1 or 2 mph faster depending on setup.

The 200 reaches speed effortlessly, that's the only way I can describe it. The ride is good and hole shot is good considering I'm turning a 29 Turbo TXP. My co-angler at my last tourney, a Ranger guy, (he just ordered an 06 Z20) tell me that he thought my boat rode very well and he was impressed with the speed. I thought that was a pretty good compliment.

The 200 requires some driver input but seems to be easy to handle. No complaints. I really like the tackle organizer.

The only advantage that I see to the 201 is the longer rod lockers. Some will say the 201 rides better but your booty will tell you which one you like best!!

Keep us posted on what you decide to do. . .

Rondo, I am running the same boat as Duane is and agree completely. In fact I just switched from a 201 to a 200 last month in order to fit it in my garage.
I think the 200 handles slightly better. I don't know if it will be as dry as my 201 but seems to ride every bit as smooth in moderate to heavy chop. The storage area is only slightly less than the 201 and hardly noticeable. The new boat certainly has a much better hole shot with a 28" Raker than my 2004 201 and as Duane said, about 2 mph faster on the top end.
I might have to try one of those Turbo 29" TXP's Duane.

Do not forget he is comparing a 200 with 225 and a 201 with 250.

The comments about the 200 being faster is comparing the same motor on the two hulls. Yes, the 200 gets better lift but the extra HP in the 250 compensates for the difference.
