    Javelin Construction

Question about the 1999 Javelin Renegade 18. Does anybody know if any wood is used in the construction of this boat or is it made with only composite materials?

Hey man, welcome to the boards! I personally am not real sure but I would hope it being 99' that if there was any wood it would be very limited.

That is an all composite boat. Unless it is gone, there should be a decal on it that says 100% Composite or something like that.

I had a '99 273 Stratos (same boat) and it had the decal.

    Re: Javelin Construction (1niceBlazer)

I have a 99 R20 and have been told by everyone that it is all composite, but I swear that there is some wood in the cap, If I stick my head into my rod locker and look at the rough edge cut on it it looks like wood to me but it may just be the fiberglass layers I am seeing. Either way, awesome boat-so what if there is some wood, still will outrun most all other OMC and genmar boats. Looks better too. No offense to no one.

I have a '99 Renegade 19. The hull is all composite but the cap has wood in the middle, at least it does on the decks. They guy before me drilled a hole in the front deck for sonar wiring and I can see the plywood in the middle. It is a great boat none the less.

    Re: Javelin Construction (jav389)

Got a 1999 Javelin Renegade 20, yes it has wood construction in it, I know first hand because I had to re-enforce and re-build the front deck when I installed my flat foot trolling motor tray...also when I spoke to the Stratos factory guy two years ago, I was told that they were changing to full composite sometime in 1999, but my boat was built early 1999....

Good luck and make sure not to drill any holes on the deck (the previous owner of my boat did), or you will have a "rotten" deck shortly after ....I have pictures to prove it...

    Good luck...

    Re: Javelin Construction (C-Man)

My Javelin is a '91 model and it is all composite. There is only one small piece of plywood on the whole boat and that is where someone made a glove box for under the console. I would imagine that your boat is the same way but you never know how manufacturers change things from year to year.

if your Jav is a 91, it has a wooden transom, wood floor and wood under the decks.

    REALLY???

Well, my new carpet project may not be as easy as I expected if I run into problems with the floor. Maybe it'll be aight.

Thanks man, the guy I bought if off of told me that it was a fiberglass floor.

Nope, not on a 91. They had a lot of wood in them back then. I think being all composite is a little over rated myself. Don't get me wrong its a great thing, but wood in them has lasted for years and if they are taken care of and the owner makes sure that there is never any holes or cracks for water to seep into then they should last a long time. But fiberglass is the same way, you must still take care of them and make sure water doesn't seep into them anywhere also. Water seeps into fiberglass just like it will wood. So just because you have an all composite boat doesn't mean you will never have a problem with it. I think its most important how well the boat was taken care of.

I have a '94 389 and I know for a fact that it has wood in the front deck. It is encased in fiberglass, but there is wood in it.
