    decision on the PT18

ok, the decision has been made by Crestliner. boat has bad porpoising problems. dealer has tried everything. boat now has eight wedges. helps somewhat but I can get 53 mph and only 5200 rpm's. trimming more than an inch or so and the porpoising starts again. I have not been able to fish since I got the boat in late April. Crestliner said I can use the boat for the rest of the year and then they will build me a new 2018 over the winter. hope the new ones will be tested before the sell them. love everything about the boat as far as room and storage. hope my next one will be right from the start.

Wow, I hope with the new boat that they re-design the hull. Obviously they have a problem with what they are currently building. I hope they build your boat sooner than later.

I'll probably take the boat back to the dealer by late Oct. being in the north I won't need it or want it until spring. that should be enough time to build it. I know my boat isn't the only PT18 with this problem, so it isn't an isolated thing. hoping the new boats will have a pad hull but I'll settle for a boat that can just do what it's supposed to.

It sounds like they are taking care of you though and it's not like you cannot catch fish.

    Did they try a hydrofoil?

You would think the factory would want the boat back now to evaluate and see if it is out of spec or if they have a bigger overall design problem...

there is another guy on this site who already gave his boat back. his was worse than mine so they know it's a problem. another guy has the boat with a 115 and he has no problems. seems to only be with the 150. I would love to know how many PT18's are being returned. I'm sure there are buyers that are not on this or other forums.

That is some serious lack of development prior to product launch. Someone's career is in big trouble.

Hope it all goes well. I have a 2013 VT-17 and it does the same thing with very little trim. Keep us posted.

Had the same problem with my 2011 Stinger 18HP, which Lowe finally replaced in 2013. I would suggest that your dealer measure the outboard mounting - mine was mounted 1/4" cant to the right. Until that was corrected, the porpoise remained.

GOT MY CRESTLINER 2018 PT18 REPLACEMENT HULL OUT ON THE WATER YESTERDAY, RUNS BEAUTIFUL, THEY GOT IT RIGHT AND MADE IT RIGHT, WAS WORTH THE WAIT, WOULD ANOTHER MANUFACTURER RECTIFIED THE PROBLEM WITH A BRAND NEW BOAT??? GOT 55 MPH ON SPEEDO AND 50MPH ON CHARTPLOTTER, BUT RUNNING A 4 BLADE, EXTRA WEIGHT OF THE BOAT AND WIDTH IT WAS EXPECTED, GETS UP ON PLANE AS FAST IF NOT FASTER THAN THE BIG GLASS BOATS OUT THERE. PLENTY OF POWER,THE DECK ROOM UP FRONT AND STORAGE BLOWS THEM AWAY ALSO...HAD 3 GUYS ON FRONT DECK AND WASN'T VERY EASY TO START ROCKING IT SO IT IS SUPER STABLE ALSO.

That is great to hear. Do you see any obvious changes to the hull design?

just wondering why he is only getting 50mph. my boat with eight wedges gets 51 gps. it's just that trimming up doesn't do anything. I know he is running a 4 blade and I think a 4 stroke. I have a Pro XS and I think the boat should be running close to 60mph. guess I'll just have to see once they build mine. I'm going on my last trip before I turn the boat in. should have the new one in time for spring.
