Bunk Boards ........ new to Skeeter owners READ.

Bunk Boards ........ check them !!!!

Rotten bunk boards are unfortunately not new news to this forum due to EZ Loader useing untreated boards.

Mine seemed fine last year (2005 model). The other week, while fishing by myself, I decided to check them again as I noticed a lag bolt 'backing out' ..... and sure enough ..... ROTTED!!!

Lake Wind Advisory this Sunday, so my wife and I decided to go to the lake just to replace them (since we already procured the replacement parts).

Glad I caught it before one broke or put a lag bolt into my hull. 5 yrs of use on my boat ..... not NEAR enough for bunks to have rotted. Looking on the brighter side ..... I'm just glad it's not too costly of a repair.

I changed my 2004 last summer and was surprised to see the old ones were treated and in pretty good shape.

I emailed EZ Loader about a couple of things and was very pleased with how I was treated. Here was the response I got back from them in regards to why they did not use treated lumber:

"Also, my records indicate that your trailer was built in February 2008. During this time we were not allowed to use treated lumber on any boat trailer. There was a study done by the EPA that said that the chemicals used in the treated lumber at that time was harmful to the environment. If someone was to cut a piece of lumber that had these chemicals, the sawdust was found to contain arsenic and could cause serious damage. This affected everything from school playgrounds to houses and even boat trailers. Since this time the lumber companies have introduced a treated lumber that is safe for people to use and is not harmful to the environment."

I got that same response when I inquired about my 2010 trailer bunks (which are treated).

Both of the long bunks on my 2008 trailer were rotted out and broken. Cahnged out all 4 and also recarpeted the fenders too.

My 05 bunks were not treated and didn't even last 2.5 years. Of course I didnt notice until the last day of a three day trip to amistad. I have some very nice deep scratches on my hull due to the failure. I made all new bunks with treated lumber and they have been good for 5 years so far and still look brand new.

Changed mine last week (2004). Surprisingly, the old boards were still in good shape.
