Spotlight in 12v cigarette plug isn't working zx250

Plug works fine to charge my phone, spotlight works in cigarette plug on my truck, but when the spotlight is plugged into the 12v receptacle on the boat it doesn't work. The red light on the plug in is lit up until I push the button to turn on the light, then the red light goes out and the big light does not come on.

Is this a safety measure in the boat, pulling too many amps? There are thousands of people that run spotlights through their cigarette plug, what might be going on here? Boat is an 08 zx250. Thanks.

I have found that not all plugs work in all cigarette lighter plugs for some reason. Maybe just a bad connection. If it were too much it would pop the fuse or breaker I think.
Try one of those adapters that plug into the cigarette plug and has 3 outs... They're cheap and handy. I think Wally World has them in the automotive section

I put a seperate plug in for my spotlight and ran it direct from the battery with a 15amp fuse.

doesn't make sense. Maybe it does has a relay that shuts off if too many amps are pulled, as you mentioned... cant see why they go through that kind of trouble for a boat. You might have to install a plug under the console or something, or maybe rewire the one you have.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with an answer

See if the lighter plug is wired. I purchased a new 225ZX and the lighter plug did not work. Checked and found out it wasn't wired.

Does the red light stay on when you use the spotlight in your truck?
I just want to know if the power cuts off in the boat... not that I have any ideas or anything, just curious

Yep, red LED stays on when light is on in truck. It appears power is being cut off to the outlet when the light is in the ON position.
