    Fixing scratches

Man, I'm just sick about it. Setting up a new dock and boat lift for my summer hangout and found out I do not have enough padding around the dock yet. Put a 2 foot long scratch and small gouge in the boat, right through the registration number area. Really bummed about it as I keep my boat pristine. Wipe it down EVERY day when done fishing, keep the carpets clean, always stored in a garage or covered, etc.

Anyway, what is the best way to fix that? I know I'll have to take it to a pro, but should I look for a good auto body place that works with fiberglass? Or is this something only a marine place should touch? Most of the scratch is clear coat. Is there any off the shelf product that will at least make that look better until I can get it fixed?

I would say NO on the auto body shop. Especially if it is glitter.

Take it to a boat place, without question.

depending how deep it is you could do it yourself to a certain point. I use 3m rubbing compound, it's abrasive enough to get most surface scratches out and then i polish it with 3m Finess-IT compound. You'd be surprised how much you get out.

Thanks, but it's deeper than that. Through the clear coat, for sure.
