WOT Specs for '97 90hp Johnson-Update ? about new prop

    Model number is J90TSLEUA & s/n G04324018

Anybody know what the manufacturer recommended spec for WOT for a 1997 90hp ? I have a 14x17 prop and only get 4300 max pushing my boat betwenn 32 & 35mph depending on conditions. Any recommendations on the next prop selection?

    Thanks

90hp at 5000RPM. Is the tachometer acurate? Are the control cables adjusted for wide open throttle. Are the carbs fully open at wide open throttle. Is the motor running on all 4 cylinders.
IF SO you should try a 15" pitch. The motor should run between 5000 to 5500RPM, preferably closer to 5500 RPM otherwise your motor is lugging all through its entire rev range, which is not good.

Pardon my ignorance as I am still in learning mode. So I should try a 14x15? I think the tach is accurate but I can not be certain. I should probably put her in the shop for a tune up also inless that is something that is fairly easy to do. I will check the carbs also. How can I check the cables for adjustment? Or should I let the shop do that too? Thank you for the document. I appreciate it.

If you are not sure definately get a good Johnson/Evinrude dealer check it for you. If everything checks out OK & she is still well down on revs then a prop change seems to be in order. A 14" x 15" would be a good place to start. The motors Max Revs should be between 5000 to 5500RPM for BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE & most economical fuel consumption.
