Homeport Not Loading BlueChart G2 Vision HD or LakeVu HD Ultra Maps

Last month Homeport would load my LakeVu HD Ultra SD 2017 card just fine. Today it does not load at all. This is the 2017 v18.50 card shipped directly from Garmin.

Last week I bought the BlueChart G2 Vision card for the entire Gulf Coast (Brownsville to Key Largo) and that SD card does not load in Homeport either.

My procedure is to put card in computer and then start Homeport. Last month the card would load in about 5 minutes. Today nothing.

Am I missing or doing something wrong???

Both SD cards function perfectly in the echoMAP Chirp 53DV, just not loading in Homeport.

Really frustrating since I want to mark waypoint fishing spots before a 7 day trip to the Keys…kinda the reason I bought the $$$$$ BlueChart G2 Vision HD card.

With either mapping card, are the individual mapping files showing up in a list on the left side of the screen in HomePort?

The individual mapping files ARE NOT showing up in a list on the left side of the screen in HomePort. All I get under "My Garmin Devices" is 010C1110000. A month ago it would say echoMap 53DV as the device. Running the latest firmware on the unit, v4.10. Installed built-in map is 2016.10 v17.60

I managed to get Homeport working with LakeVu HD Ultra SD 2017 pre-loaded card and the pre-loaded BlueChart G2 Vision HD card by using an older “GarminDevice xml” file.

The xml file is from before I updated to v4.10 firmware and 2016.10 built-in map. In short, Homeport is only working with older v3.8 firmware GarminDevice.xml file…..on my unit. Your mileage may vary.

Fortunately I made a backup file of the older v3.8 GarminDevice.xml or I would have been screwed for my Florida Keys trip.

Now for the real kicker, once I remove the BlueChart G2 Vision or LakeVu HD Ultra card from Homeport and place it in the Fishfinder, the xml file is “updated by the fishfinder” and is not read by Homeport upon the next insertion. Both maps still work fine in the Fishfinder THANK GOODNESS.

So now I have to run out and buy two flash drives and copy the hacked xml code to each flash drive…along with the 2 Ultra maps. Finally I can create waypoints & routes in Homeport and copy the user data files to the SD card to load on the fishfinder.

You know, I am beginning to get really annoyed of having to diagnose & hack Garmin code to make things work. Writing software code and testing is not my day job nor my hobby. I also can’t afford to sit on the phone for hours talking with tech support either.

Whew……. that is a mouthful! Way to go Garmin.

I don’t even want a call or email from Garmin Tech Support at this point. Just 2-Day Air me a new echoMap Chirp 73sv with a GT transducer with everything working properly for my trip. Will also need 2 new maps since my current $$$$ maps are registered to my echoMap CHIRP 53dv. Given an hour or two, I can probably hack that code too

Least they could do for all the beta-testing I did for them with Garmin Express download errors and now this fiasco.
