    Skeeter live will problems

OK, heres the deal. My livewells drain almost as fast and the pump can try and fill them. The ProCraft I traded in for this boat would fill the livewells as soon as you put it into the water. It is a 1996 Skeeter. What am I over looking? Help, the fish in the livewell want water!

    Are you closing the valve?

Also could be the valve is broken or the insides wore out. Might have to get back there and check it out. Or might have to make an adjustment to the "arm" on the valve. Here is a pic of what i'm talking about. The metal clip holds the wiring that connects to the arm. If the wiring works loose then it can cause the valve not to close. Also you can buy a rebuilding kit from Flow Rite for your valves. They are about $10.

Here is the kit i bought to rebuild mine.

Re: Skeeter live will problems (fishin couillon)

Thanks for the information! I am going to have to do a little looking. Does the clip secure a cable similar to a lawn mower throttle cable or actual wires? I have only had the boat for a month or so and was not aware of the shut off valve. My old boat didn't have this feature so I have been lost as to how to keep water in it. I have it in the shop right now due to what I consider poor performance from the engine. As soon as I have it back I am going to jump in head first and track down the valve and see where that leads. Pineville huh? We are practically neighbors. I am in Homer right near Lake Claiborne.

Yes, the cable is like a lawn mower throttle cable. It works the same way also.

Re: Skeeter live will problems (fishin couillon)

OK, I have looked everywhere that I can think to look and can't find a handle or cable to pull to close the valve on the live well pump. Any ideas where it may be located at? My boat is a 1996 ZX150SP. Would another option be to buy two plugs and just put them into the two water outlet ports on the back of the boat prior to launching? I know that is not the best method but at this point I am not sure what else to try.

Did you locate the valves? For a temporary soultion you can use the plugs nothing wrong with that, but if you have reciruculation you will not be able to use that function.

You dont have 2 knobs right under your throttle? should say open/close or recirc/empty on the knob

Re: Skeeter live will problems (Skeeter-Jim)

Well, I have looked everywhere I can imagine to look with no sucess. I can't find a handle/knob that would be for opening or closing the valve that has been mentioned. I guess for the time being I am going to have to just use two plugs in the back of the boat to keep water in the livewells. Eventually I will either find the valve and handle or I will install a new one.
Now I have got to work on the live well aerator time/switch. Neither the one on the front deck of the boat or the one at the drivers console work.
Thanks to everyone for all the help! I am not giving up but merely taking a break for it for a while to do some fishing!

Re: Skeeter live will problems (Skeeter-Jim)

Just found out I needed the same valve as the arm off my broke last night while trying to change the pump. here is link to Flow Rite's website to purchase the whole valve. https://www.flow-rite.com/cata...alves Purchased a valve and two controls and only paid 58 plus shipping.

If you have any questions contact Roger Miller (615) 443-0264 (phone/fax)rogersoffice@charter.net. Very nice and can answer any questions you may have.

Re: Skeeter live will problems (cwill)

I had my boat in the shop for a different reason and had them look at the livewells while they were at it. The claim it is "old school", just put a drain plug in each of the livewells. That will work for now but I almost think that was their way of saying " we are really not sure why it doesn't work right and don't really want to look". I will take the time one of these days to go through the system and fix it correctly but for now the drain plug idea will get me fishing.

Sounds like the didn't want to mess around with it. But then maybe they would have charged you an arm n leg for the work. Can you take a picture of your controls so we can see what you have ?

Re: Skeeter live will problems (Skeeter-Jim)

I had that pump on my boat and I just replaced it with a newer model. Got mine at BassPro Shop just disconnect ends and take picture so you get something that will hook to your hoses the same. . I had to buy new livewell hose cause mine was just acouple inches short for the new setup. . . tight working quarters but its good and no leaks.
