03 TZX 190 Transom

Can someone please give me suggestions as to what the black area is next to / under the HIN plate. I don't know if this is a factory design or something else. In regards to the gelcoat boardering this area, the edges are clean, not jagged, and it does not appear to be a crack or into the fiberglass at all. Just wondering if anyone else's Skeeter transom looks like this or if there is a reason for this. Your help is appreciated!

Pics are a little to close......is the gelcoat/paint gone?

Yes, the gel / paint are gone.....or never there. There is no indication that the transom ever had work done to it and the original owner told me that he had never had any work done to the glass, hull, or top cap. I just want to confirm if this is a factory thing or not.......

Also, the "black" area you can see in the picture extends behind the HIN plate and behind the jackplate......I dont know how far it goes behind the jackplate because I have not had it off of the boat.

I doubt that it's a factory thing as the whole boat is painted. Reason for asking was i was pulling the kids on a tube this summer and the rope broke casuing the buckle to hit the back of the transome making a big ol chip. It acutally when down to the fiberglass. And what's behind the gel coat and flake was black, like whats in your pic. So my guess is that the jp could have chipped a big area and it fell off exposing what's beneth the gelcoat. Check your transome bolts to see if they are loose and also if the jp move around.
