evinrude silver star series 1991 150 hp will not stay running

model #j150exeis serial# Q 02987277 . i got this motor and boat 3 months ago with 10 hours on total rebuild . it starts hard , sometimes 1 minute of spinning over before starting .lately it will start alot better within 30secs , after warmup 3 secs . it seems to run good , but later it will not stay running .it will run for 20 - 30 secs and skip and stall . it will start right up again immediately and repeat . last time out i took it home and flushed it with fresh water and when it started it ran for 10 secs sped up 1000 rpm by itself and stalled . it took right off running again off the key but repeated the problem . its a bummer having a boat you cannot trust to fish out of . if you can help i would really be appreciative . thanks

Contact the rebuilder, if he won't help then take it to a trained OMC/BRP tech there are too many variables with these motors.

Champ, not doubting you, but what kind of variable are you talking about? Curious minds want to know.

Ignition, fuel system, etc. parts ain't cheap, he could toss a bunch of parts at it and still not fix the problem. I'd have the rebuilder check it out, if he was worth a flip he should do this for free.

i got the boat and motor after rebuild and mechanic would not honor warranty . i am on fixed income , would like ideas on fixing it . i can do the repair , just not familiar with outboards . if it was small block chev would not be problem

Did you get a receipt from the rebuilder? Did it say anything about a warrenty? I would go after his azz and get a refund.
