Anybody know when Skeeter stopped putting wood in their boats?
Anybody know when Skeeter stopped putting wood in their boats?
We have been down this road before on this board. I have a friend that has a 2006 ZX200 that has wood under the decks , under the seats and backs of the rod lockers. He found the wood under deck when he installed a recessed foot petal.
Part of the problem is that people assume "composite construction" means "no wood". This isn't the case. Composite means combination of materials.
Secondly is that Skeeter advertises as the first composite construction production boat. This claim is based on the transom and stringers being made out of a composite material rather than wood. This happened when Yamaha bought Skeeter. The earliest models had a "c" designation after the model number, such as a ZX185c.
Wood was still used in various parts of the boat and is an incredibly strong material for mounting hardware to. It was only in the last few years that the last of the wood has been removed and then, only on some models. My 2005 ZX250 had wood in the very back of the rod locker that was carpeted over. The 2008 20i I have as a demo has a composite material to divide the lockers.
Wood in boats is not a bad thing. It's actually less expensive to use a composite material but many boat companies still use wood because, used properly, it's a stronger and better anchoring material.

</TD></TR></TABLE>Take a look in your boat, you will find wood, probably in the same places. I have SX model and like you said, it has wood for the rod boxes, under seats, etc.
YOU are not entitled to what I have earned!!!!!
2014 Phoenix 619 Pro / 2014 Mercury 200 Pro XS
I cant access under my seat ,and i think the back of the rod lockers is fiberglass since it has a curve to it. But I am sure there is some there somewhere.
I've never really considered a piece of wood used in the back of a rod locker or as a compartment separator...to be "an integrated wood construction component". Those aren't really an integrated part of the boat as much as a floor, stringer, or transom.
Just the way I see things I guess?
However, up to 2005 they were still using wood on topside of their "box" stringer system. (under the floor).
Maybe in other areas also, but, I've not had to cut into a transom on a later model yet.
Soon though...
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........
Here is a more indepth question, when did Skeeter Stop using Wood in its Transom and or Hull?
Hmmmmmmm.
1995 the c in the model number was for composite like zx200c
Definitely Good info! Thanks
