    Boat stored in garage

I am looking into purchasing a new house and would like to put my TZX 200 in the garage since it would fit. Now for my question, all the garages have the hot water heater in them. So would this be a problem for storing the boat and when it comes to charging batteries? The reason I ask is that I know on the hot water heater it says don't store gas or flammables near the tank. I was thinking when I charge the batteries I could plug in a fan to keep the air circulating so fumes would not build up. Input would be appreciated, thanks.

Why would you want to heat hot water?

As long as your boat isnt putting out excessive gas fumes I dont think it should be a problem.

There would have to be an extremely high gas fume concentration near the source for the pilot light on the water heater (if it's gas) to ignite it. Your batteries are not a flammable source like that. One has to do a bunch of things wrong to make a battery explode...even then, I'm not sure it can be done with today's batteries and battery chargers. I haven't tried, but I don't see why a battery's electrolyte is flammable (I know the case says it is...as well as an explosion hazard...which I have never heard of or seen). I might pull some electrolyte out with a hydrometer and put it on the ground and see if it will ignite. Regardless, your batteries aren't producing enough fumes to have an ignitable concentration. Have no worries.

On a side note, I envy you for having a garage big enough. It'll be another 3 years before I can buy another house with a garage big enough. Even then, I'm only going to buy one with enough property so I can build a 3 stall heated garage/shop myself when the time comes. Then I'll never have to worry about weather or winter again.

The only time I've ever seen car batteries explode is during a fully involved car fire. I would'nt worry about the water heater either. Just park the boat in there and enjoy.
