Console Lowrance 50 DB went out on 07 SX190

I turned off the finders by using the boats Power switch not the locators power button. Now the front one still works but the console does not turn on. I don't really see any fuses to check at the batteries. Has this happened to anyone here. I should mention that the boat was new and the locators have only been used maybe 12 times.

I tried unplugging the locator and plugging it back in, but that did not do anything. The dealer has a 3 week waiting list that is near my house, so I was hoping to "fix" it myself if possible.

Look for an inline fuse on the power line behind the unit on the console. Also check for loose power lines at the junction box.

Sounds like a typical new boat bug, look for the simple solutions first. Are you getting power to your control panel and not the fish finder or is the control panel dead as well?

As far as shutting the unit down with the boats power button, I have been doing that for years and have never had it cause a problem. I may be wrong doing it but so far it hasn't been an issue.

I don't think it is the boats power button as the front one still works. What is the junction box? Is that the fuse box panel? I only saw 1 fuse connected to the wires coming from the finder, and that had a 10AMP fuse, which looked OK. Man there are a lot of wires behind the console. Should there be fuse at the batteries?

quick and easy test would be to take your unit off the front and plug it in at the console and see if it will come on, if it doesnt you know its a wiring issue, if it does then your other unit is bad. Also, if its the unit your dealer wont fix it, you will have to send it to Lowrance and they will replace it. I had one of my units go bad on my '05 model, seems like you may have to send in a copy of your bill of sale along with the unit.

My guess is either a bad wire connection or a blown fuse, but it could be the unit. Good Luck

Here is a dumb question, how do you get the front one out? Do you simply pry it out or do you unscrew the housing area around it? I was looking at it last night and I didn't want to break anything, but I didn't want to create too much work either?

You have to unscrew the dash plate to get it out and there will be a brkt that holds it to the dash plate. do you race bmx or your kids.

On my SX190 there is no bracket on the bow graph, its just held in by a gray colored putty, not sure on your SX170 how they are done, but I would imagine they are the same way. You can try to gently pull it out, if it seems like it doesnt want to come up just take the screws out of the black molding and pull the whole piece off to see what you have.

By the way, while looking under the console area, I found an "extra" depth finder cord. It appears I have 2 transducers in the back transom area. At first I thought that was the problem, but the unit only has 1 plug in on it, and it already has the plug plugged in. The other plug is black/grey and much larger than the little one on the unit. Looks like your typical plug on a much larger FF. Anyone else here have this? Do you think it is for "networking" 2 FF together?

Did you buy the boat used? If bought used previous owner probably had a another FF installed and keep the old one when ready to sale the boat. By the description, sounds like a ducer for a diffenet model. Like SJ said, there should be no bracket on the back side. If like mine it is being held down by double sided tape. Just pop it out. More than likely, they didn't install an inline fuse, just connected it direcly to the fuse box. So might trace the wire and see where it's connected to at the box and check fuse there.

Just to finalize this. I did plug in the console unit into the bow and it did not work there either, so it appears the unit is bad. Wow, a whole 30 days of use, actually only 12 until it died. Now I have to pay to ship it back to Lowrance to get it replaced. Unbelievable.

Its probably cheaper to ship it to Lowrance than it would be to drag the boat to your dealer with gas prices like they are. Lowrance has an excellent customer service, they'll have your unit or a new one back to you in no time.

I know it sucks but like SJ said, might cost more in gas to bring it back to the dealer. I done the same with mine when it went out. Of course, my dealer is 5 miles down the road but i didn't want them touching my boat again. Plus when you get it, you know it's not in and having to wait on the dealer to call you, etc.
