    Software Update?

I recently installed two 93sv chirp units - both show software vs. 3.6. Garmin shows 3.8 is most current. I follow the directions per Garmin but the 93sv does not offer to update when I plug the micro SD into the unit. I see where others have updated their software to fix the freeze problem so I assume the map update issue is not related to the software update.

Has anyone else had an issue going to 3.8 from 3.6 - any suggestions?

    Thanks...

After you downloaded the up-date, did you RUN the program or just copy it to the sd card? You must RUN the downloaded program. It will unpack itself and copy the correct files tot he sd card. You dont do anything but run it.

If you did that, you might try a different sd card or re-format the one you have.

Did you followed the instructions below exactly? Maybe your SD card is the problem. Reformat SD card to fat32.

    Installation Instructions

    1. Click on 'Download' and choose to save the file to your computer.
    2. Choose a location where you can easily find the file, such as the 'My Documents' folder or 'C:\'.
    3. Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
    4. Double-click on the downloaded file. This will automatically extract the files to C:\Garmin and run a program to transfer the software update to an SD card.
    5. Power on the device and make sure all attached network devices are powered on as well.
    6. Insert the card into the card slot of your primary device. Select 'Update Software' in the window that automatically displays. If you do not have a primary device with a card slot, please see your dealer.
    7. After the update completes, all Garmin Marine Network devices and NMEA 2000 sensors will have the latest software. This ensures all of the devices will be able to communicate with each other. Note: If you have additional chartplotters connected to NMEA 2000 and not the Garmin Marine Network, you will have to independently update each chartplotter. After the update of the Garmin Marine Network completes, insert the update card into each NMEA 2000 chartplotter.

No, the software updates are usually less than 5 gigs, so you only need a 10 gig card.

Long story short - it seems i had a micro sd card that was/is kaput - came out of my gopro bag - bought a new card and it's all good. Both units updated to 3.8.

I do appreciate all the help...

Was going to say.. I had a 64GB Micro SD and it would not work because max reading capability(I guess?) is 32GB. I ended up going to Walmart and getting a new 8GB for like $10. Worked fine. Just wanted to leave this here just in case anyone else has the same issue.

A 64 gig card will work IF you re-format it to FAT32.
