    Taking on water

Does anyone have a 2007 Skeeter with the plastic screw in drain plug? If so, have you experienced any leaking into hull? The housing on mine is attached with pop rivets and I think it has been leaking. Several gallons of water accumulates over three or four hours fishing. I suspect the drain plug but not sure. Any info?

Carl - I believe this is the typical drain plug for all Skeeter. Mine has screws, not pop rivets. It should also be bonded in with a sealant. There should also be an o-ring on the plug.

This is on your new WX1880? How's the rig running for you?

Hey Jim, hope you're doing well. Yes, the problem is on the WX1880. After thinking about it, I'm almost sure that is where the water is entering. The original O ring was pretty well flattened. I replaced the original plug and O ring but haven't had it in the water since then. Also, I think I will have the dealer replace the rivets with screws.

I've been so busy since I got the rig I really haven't taken the time to play with the set up. With the F-200 the speedo indicates about 58-60 at 6000+ RPM. This is with Yamaha 21 pitch SS. I have a 23 and think it will turn it OK and it should be near a 55-60 MPH GPS rig. I may play with it some in December and will let you know for sure. I assume you are pleased with your rig. The F-150 is in my opinion the best outboard, overall, available today. I put hundreds of hours on my F-150 without a hiccup. Have a good day.

Carl - Plug the hull, raise the bow as high as possible, fill back of hull with water, then look for the drip outside. It could also be a leak on one of the pumps.

    Re: Taking on water (PSM207)

Mine leaked through the recirt pumps, do as PSM207 said, thats one way to check it, somtimes they can leak though the o-ring seal in the pumps or worse the pump housings can be cracked as mine were....if so they will have to be replaced and resealed with with silicone at the hull..hope this helps, mine is an 07 model, the dealer replaced it for me , and both of mine were leakin

If water gets in then it will also get out. In the driveway put in your plug and fill the bilge area with water and see where it runs out. Mine also was a small crack in the recirc pump housing. It could also be a recirc pump hose, hose connection, but the plug would be my last guess. goodluck
