    I-Class Trailer Brake issue, Help???

Have an 06 I-Class trailer that when I back up the brakes lock-up. I back this rig up with an 02 Chevy Tahoe. Can some one help me figure out how to fix. Is this a solenoid issue. I replaced the 5-pin wiring harness thinking I wasn't getting good connection. I haven't had any problems with the brakes in the last few months until now.

Confused on how to fix and what to look for.

there is a pin that slides in the side of the front of the hitch, by the lock down part, make sure that the pin is in all the way and that its not a lose part inside there, that is the only place i can think of that would cause this on a surge system. good luck,

    Bully,

The pin is stationary for a moment while backing, but from what I understand that the I-Class trrailers are electric hydraulic surge brakes if that makes any sense? I have sense learned that the blue wire (center Wire) on plug is only for backing and that I may need to test the power coming from that plug for that wire.

I'm probably not making sense as I had no problems before this issue. I appreciate your comments as I am frustrated with this new trailer.

    Russ,

Put your truck in reverse and have someone look to see if your trailer backup lights are lit. If they are, your backup solenoid should be releasing and backing should be no problem.

On the other hand, if your brakes are locking then I bet your backup lights are not on. This would tell you that the problem is at your trailer wiring plug connection, or on the wiring on your truck. Often the connector in the 5 prong plug gets some corrosion and is weak, and won't activate the solenoid that releases your brakes.

You can also by a tool that you can put in the hitch at your trailer tongue that keeps your trailer tongue from compressing when you go in reverse. This prevents the surge mechanism from locking out your brakes. They only cost a couple of dollars, and I can show you one at our next tourney. I keep one just in case someone like you or me has a problem like you are experiencing.
    ciao,
    Marc

Have you checked the brake fluid? I heard of that issue on a buddies boat. Also you can here that solenoid click when power is supplied. It's right behind the master cylinder. Check to make sure you have a good ground - I had one that had excessive paint and lost contact about 6 months later. Cleaned the contacts and never had another issue. I tested solenoid with a battery and jumper leads direct to solenoid. Helps elminate wiring.

I have had that happen too... 1st thing is to make sure your trailer plug is plugged in to the truck.

The solenoid has to turn on to bypass the brake line. If the solenoid is not working you are get the brakes working as you backup.
Give this a read it will help.

Guess what it ended my brake problem, a blown 10 amp fuse in the Tahoe. Thanks for all the replys.
