what speed should I be running???

01 zx 190 with a 150 HPDI , 23 m prop. I ran it today and could only get 58 MPH. lot of trim left , after a certain point the more I trimed the slower it got. when it ran best the 58 I had no rooster tail at all. will only turn about 5600 RPM's. when I had it hooked up to the computer last week it had never seen 6,000 RPM's.

what do I need to do ? jack the plate up more? what is the max RPM's I should turn. thanks in advanced I'm new to Yamaha's , have only had mercs. Phillip

Was the air temp, water temp, and humidity high during your recent run? These conditions usually result in poor performance. I can run in the low 60's during the cooler months, and generally the high 50's when it's hot.

Also, do you know the propshaft height?

Owners manual states 5500 rpm. I suspect the engine will rev limit over 5600. When you scanned the engine, what was the max rpm the ECM recorded? Is your speed from GPS or speedo?

I'm pretty sure the rev limiter is closer to 6,000 than 5600. I know in the carb'd version it is. Now is not the best time to try and capture top speeds. The water is 'thicker' and the air is 'thicker'. Also how far below pad are you currently runnung, and what size JP?

You should be able to get 61-63 mph out of that rig with the right set-up in the cooler months. Right now with it being as hot as it is you are going to loose at least 200 rpm and 2 mph. Set the jackplate where the center of your propshaft is 3" below the pad and then you can tweak it a little at a time from there.

BTW the rev limiter on that motor is set at 6150rpm. I like to prop one to run 5800-5900 but 6000 is not going to hurt anything.

I agree with psm that 61/62 in ideal conditions and high 50's when it is hot but that depends on the weight in the boat people, tackle, gas, ect.

Same here, I have the SX 190 with the carb and in the summer months i can get up to 58 @ 5700 R's +/- and winter 61 @ around 6000 R's. Sounds like your where your suppose to be, of course like others said you can play with the jp and squeeze out a few more.

Set it up and prop it for 6000 rpm's light load cool weather. You will need to go up with the plate. I have found 2" to 2 1/4" below pad to be about the best on the ZX. You should still have good water pressure and turn the motor 5800 rpm's with a summer fishing load. Good luck.
