Brand new man (fresh blood) needs help
Hey everyone,
I'm brand new to this site. And truthfully brand new to bass fishing ..at least seriously (or attempting 'seriously')
I've a 1542 war eagle most of my life to duck hunt and fish out of (and I'm 44) so in part, a fairly avid outdoorsman but my 14 yr old son has become obsessed with bass fishing. We joined a local youth angler association and I've been taking that tiller handle duck boat to fish bass tournaments with him. You can imagine his embarrassment, but also my desire to show him you start at the bottom and work up. He even agreed to give up our duck lease this year and apply that to money toward a bass boat. I was proud of him for making that tough decision
With that said, I'm in the process of purchasing a bass boat. My budget is $15-$17k.
I've found several boats I like, but I have a friend I know and trust who has the following:
2001 Ranger 462vs (I realize the NADA sites say the boat wasn't made that year which concerned me). My friend told me he purchased this boat off a local pro, Mark Davis, who won it that year and was sold to him as a 2001.
Boat has the following:
- 175 Mercury 2 stroke motor with 10 hours since it was rebuilt
- also said just spend $2,000 rebuilding the computer
- Dual Console
- Duel Fuel Tanks
- Duel Aerated Live Wells
- Motor guide 67 trolls motor
- power trim and tilt
Boat needs the following:
- trailer brakes fixed
- graphics
- two batteries.
He is asking $14,500 - Is that the going rate on this boat or should I keep looking?
Other than that it is clean and has been garage kept. Also, the ranger site shows this boat needs dual axel trailer but the trailer he has is single axel.
