First test of boat

Put my new boat in the water today for the first time. 1995 SL 140, 135 Merc. My first boat was a 1972 stick steer, so I consider anything from 1985 on to be new. I have redone the carpet, seats, new H2O pump, lower unit oil, and rebuilt the carbs. With me and my daughter the spedo said 58 mph, this cant be accurate, I figure 45, mabey 50, I will GPS it soon. The tach showed 5800 rpms, which seems a little high turning a Lazer 22p. So far I love the boat, and it will be great for pulling the kids on tubes. Not what I would like to have for fishing, but that boat will come as soon as my 7 year old gets out of college.

I bought the go fishing boat a year before mine was ready to go to college. As soon as we looked into his schools of choice, I decided to buy the boat cause I'll spend the next 30 years paying off the university!

You might be on to something there, I have'nt looked at it that way, and there is no way the wife will go for it.
