    Lucas Hub Oil Question

I watched a video on Wired to Fish about changing hub oil on a Ranger. Even though I have no problem doing this on my Ranger I watched the video anyway. I noticed that he used "Lucas Hub Oil" I then emailed Lucas to inquire as to what the weight of their hub oil was. They responded by telling me that it was around 250 Wt!! and designed for Big Rigs. Has anyone ever used this product on their Ranger Hubs?

Re: Lucas Hub Oil Question (n2bassn)

I saw the same video. I was on a trucker site recently and some there say they mix the Lucas Hub Oil 50/50 with regular motor oil to get the viscosity down. The Lucas has additives that help keep the seals from leaking.

Re: Lucas Hub Oil Question (derick881)

I watched that video and to me it was providing wrong info. The hub he showed was one that does not have oil in it. I have just installed 3 of those hubs on my trailer and they come pre greased with a grease that turns to an oil when it gets hot. Also, there is no plug to remove on the top of the hub like he shows. The old cool hubs had the set screw but the new ones do not. On my older boats I always used 60 weight racing oil just like Rangers said to do.

I work for a Freightliner dealership and we sell the hell out of that hub oil, allot of guys use it in there trailer hubs and blend it with 80/90 synthetic oil. There seal problems are cut in half, they say its great stuff. I use Lucas grease ( called red n tacky)with bearing buddys on my boat trailer, 5 years and running and only service them once, its cut the heat in the hubs way back.

If i am not badly mistaken that is what we got from Ranger in the mail a few months ago and they told us to start using it (Lucas Oil)
