    Ready to make the transition!

    Hey guy's,

Looking for some feedback. Ready to pull the trigger and get me a real boat!! With my budget it's probably going to be an 07-08-09.

So here's my question. Z-20 series or Z-520 series. Please let me know your thoughts. I've been leaning twd the Z-20's because I've heard they're a better rough water boat.

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

That would be a no on your info. Not knocking the Z20, but the Z520 is longer and wider. Plus, faster hull

The Z20's are fine, fine boats, but the Z520's are in a class all by itself.

The Z20 drives flat, transom lift, easy riding boat, drives like a Cadillac, the Z520 on the other hand gets major bow lift, super wide on the front deck, deeper hull, and drives like a Corvette!

    Z520 is my vote!

No comparison on the two boats Sir......................the Z20 is a fine boat, but doesn't compare to the Z520. It "will not" handle rough water as good as the Z520 will. Like Pete said..................the Z20 runs pretty much flat as a pancake and is like a "cadillac". The Z520 on the other hand will run nose very high and is in car terms...................like a "Corvette"......................Both are good boats , but the Z520 hands down. On the bad side, the Z520 will cost lots more $$.....................even used !!................................RR

Well I think that saying that the Z20 rides like a Cadillac is inaccurate, unless GM has greatly stiffened up the Cady's to ride like a lowered Porsche 930! They are much rougher than the Z520. Well thats my opinion anyhow.

Well, I'm taking an '08 520 out this weekend. It's got a Etec w/low hours. I'll let you guys know what I think. I'm just going to guess its gunna drive a little nicer than my Nitro NX750

Thanks for the input so far guys!

That one is even better riding than the other 2. It's a little slower than the Z520, but faster than the Z-20. I'm sure you'll like that one.

Yep, it holds everything... including several kitchen sinks. I've even seen a Hercules stuffed in there.

I used to fish FLW tournaments as a co-angler, so I've been in a lot of the newer Ranger boats. The 520 is still the most comfortable to fish from.

Re: Ready to make the transition! (utinator)

Ya I'm pumped to check it out. I'm a bit weary of the outboard (ETEC 250 V6). Maybe I just read to much on the internet lol. I'll be sure to post a report after this weekend and let you guy's know how it goes.

I actually seperated in '07 and got my degree and commission in '10. In a wierd twist of fate I ended up back at Travis. Of course my second assignement on base was in my old C-5 unit. Can't get away from FRED! I love it though. You simply dont get anymore maintenance centric than working C-5's. What a beast.

Anyways...I'm cleared hot from the long hair colonel (wife) to pull the trigger on a new rig. Of course there was only one boat worth buying for the long haul, and it isn't going to be another Nitro!!!!

Hey Utinator... Do you know Mike Swank? He's a C-5 engineer.

Nope, I don't think so. That name doesn't ring any bells. He must be one of the "good" engineers. I actually work in QA now, so I don't interact with the flight crews anymore.

Re: Ready to make the transition! (utinator)

OHHH MY! That was a blast! Man...that was ALOT of boat. After driving my Nitro NX750 for the last few years and then jumping in a Z-520....it left me a bit nervous lol.

I had to slow down because my eyes were watering so much haha. What a platform. She handled great but I'm def going to have spend some time getting used to it. I'd compare it to driving a 600 Honda Shadow then jumping on an R1. Totally dif feel but I loved how big it was. The Etec was quiet! I could barely hear it running.

Gunna sleep on it guy's but I have a feeling I'll be posting some pics of my new rig pretty shortly.
