Side scan transducer placement

I have a 520vx with no jack plate. I keep reading to put the transducer in a spot so that it is parallel when driving 3-mph. What's the best place to mount this thing.

Ranger told me to screw it directly on the back of my pad. You'll also have to use the flip function in the menu on setup after installing it in this fashion.

Ranger didn't tell you to screw it directly to the back of the pad........................They did tell you to screw it to the back of the step...................................Yes, you will use the flip function.......................Just to clarify or someone will put one on the pad, which wouldn't be too good...............................RR

What Roger said screw it to the bottom of the step and a lot has been made about having it level with the surface of the water, not worth worrying about. The angle will constantly change depending on load, speed and wave action. The only thing that changes with the angle (within normal use) is if you image a stick that is vertical in the water it might appear slightly not vertical on the screen.

Thanks guys, I had planned on putting on the step. I just wanted to make sure that was the best place.

Put mine on the bottom of the set back. Works perfect. Be sure to put silicone on the screws.

any pics or explanation of how you attached it to the bottom of the set back? that is where i want to put mine but unsure how to attach like that?

I don't have the same boat as you, but I have a step on my ranger as well. I don't like bending the cable all over so I use the flip function on the HDS.
