    Falcon Lake

I finally got down to Falcon Lake again. We had dreams of monster bass but only came up with better than average (for most lakes) fish during our four day trip. We caught more than 60 fish with most weighing in at 3-4lbs but we did manage two over 7, eight over 6 and several over 5lbs. It's funny that we threw 3lb fish back like they were a nuisance. We only caught 6 under 3lbs over the four days.

The weather was total crap the entire time. We got down there Thursday afternoon with overcast conditions with light rain and north winds at 15-20mph. Temperatures were stayed in the 50's the entire time. Water temperature started out at 65F then dropped over the first night to 60 and never came back up.

    Enjoy the pics.

    Re: Falcon Lake (lknbassman)

We were Down there Nov. 3rd- 6th and it was an awesome trip, no DD for us either but came very close..
the day we arrived the biggest cold front of the season blew in and messed up the fishing, it was still pretty good but not as good as locals were saying it was in the weeks prior.
My buddy did catch this 9.14 on a DD22
We found a pile of them the day after the front and caught 63 fish from noon til 5:00... It was awesome

    Re: Falcon Lake (Sooner496)

We stayed on the TX side. If you want to fish the other side, the license is $40 for a week. We found most of our fish north of the county ramp in the main lake but alot of people were fishing father up the river in the standing timber up there. There were several 10lb fish caught farther up the river. Most were catching their fish on black/blue or tilapia colored 1 oz football or brush jigs made by Oldham's or JoBaby. We fished rock walls that dropped into 16-22ft but the fish should be pretty heavy into the spawn come Feb. Find small bays with brush in them and you should be able to get into them pretty good. The water had alot of color to it. If it's still the same, you probably won't see the beds. The best visibility I saw was about 18".

    Hope this helps you some.

I've been getting to Falcon once a year for the last two years. My family lives in San Antonio and is only 3 hours from Falcon. One of these days, I'll get up to G'Ville.

I'll meet you at Lake G when you're ready. We'll have 2 rigs and get on em'. I'm planning to begin working out the details on my next rig this coming week with the guys at Berkeley Outdoors Marine when Clinton is back.

Man thanks alot for the report. I went 2 years ago and fished on the Mexico side with some guys that knew the place pretty well. It just seems a little spooky over there if you know what i mean!

    Re: Falcon Lake (Sooner496)

The water's completely different from two years ago. Hell, I was there last year and it looked like a new lake all together. The water's down 23 feet. There is alot of structure visible that I didn't know existed last year. I learned that maps really smooth features out. The best tool for lake study is to download Google Earth or some other imagery viewer. GE has a great feature that allows you to look at historical imagery. This tool will help tremendously in finding features that are normally submerged.
