    2010 Z9, fully loaded...only 67-68

    2010 Z9
    2010 250 Pro XS
    25P Fury
Bob's hyd jack plate 6" lift. Setback on the jackplate is about 11" back off the transom.
Water pressure is 28psi w/ the jackplate fully down and trim all the way up.
    Single Console
    5800RPMs
    I'm 260lbs.
I have an HDS8 on a ram at the console and 2 power poles.

    >>With two people and fully loaded, 1/2 tank of gas, no livewells filled...
...getting 66-68 out of my boat.

    >>Fully loaded, 2 guys, 3/4 to full tank of gas, 2 livewells full
    ...63-65 MPH.

Wondering if I should go to a 26 or 27 Tempest. I've heard heavier loads work better w/ that prop but I don't know. Any ideas. Thanks.

You need to examine your boats lift at WOT and full trim. If its sitting flat in the water that may be your issue. Anything heavy in the front compartments needs to go to the back. Lighten the load a little if possible.

Try a 26p tempest see if that helps.

I agree , I have an 8 but this prop made a huge difference for bow lift. I'm running a 27 pitch

Also try lowering the Fury a little. To 3.75" below pad.

I have a hydraulic jack-plate and I've tried every lift/lower adjustment. All the way down is best for speed and overall performance. Lifting only makes the boat slow down.

Then you have a set up problem.

Dropping the motor normally slows the boat down and makes it easier to chine walk. Sounds like the motor is mounted too high on the jackplate. You should be able to vary the motor height from 5" below pad to 1" above pad with the jackplate. You will never run the motor @ 1" above pad (except in very shallow water and slow speeds), but you may want to sink the motor to 5" below pad in very rough water to keep it under water when cresting waves.

Make sure you move all heavy items to the back of the rig, not the front, and your prop should be ~ 3 1/2"-4" below pad to start, then adjust it up/down from there in small increments until you find the best spot for it.

Check this post out for ideas on where to set the motor based on others results..............

I agree make sure you can get your prop shaft at least 4" below the pad with your JP all the way down.

Yes. Jackplate all the way down, and trim all the way "out".

Any thoughts on that? I've tried to take it down to 1/4 of the way down but I only go slower.

Even if I lift the jackplate up a little and then move the trim "in" a bit...still i go slower.

Maybe I need to 26p or 27p Tempest? I've heard the Tempest are best for heavy boats and/or heavy loads.

    Re: 2010 Z9, fully loaded...only 67-68 (akoutdoors714)

the trim should not be out until your on the pad (usually going over 40mph) and then you feather the trim out until the boat gets a little loose or woboly,

that is the sweet spot. the jack plate should be the first thing you adjust when you take off, start low, trim all the way in, then start to raise the jack plate up then you play with the trim.

You will need to play around with both adjustments til you find the most optimal
setting. benifit of a hydraulic jack plate is you don't have to head back to the ramp and put the boat back on the trailer to make adjustments, you do it on the fly and make mental notes as to if your going faster or slower, if your rpm is higher or lower, once you have this figured out, then you can start to play with props.

So what you're saying is I don't know how to drive...lol! but you're saying it in a nice and informative way...lol

Thanks. I'll try that. I've never had a hyd. jackplate.

    So I'll try this:

Starting out, jackplate all the way down, trim in all the way
Once on pad, start moving the jackplate up
After that, start moving the trim out

    Correct or not?

no, not sayin anything about your driving, it takes some practice tryin to get the hang of it.

hyd jackplates are very tricky and just the slightess improper setting, too high or too low would mess everythng else up.

your understanding is correct. if you have a guage for the hydraulic lift, you should meassure where the centre of the prop is about 3inch below pad, and use the gauge on the dash as your reference point to determine if your boat wants more or less, then play with the trim for the final squeeze of tuning.
