    LS 205 DC Opinions

    Hello everyone!

I'm new to BBC and just wanted to say hello to the fellow Hydra Sports owners.

I wanted to see who owns a 205 and what they think of it... i.g. speed, handling, set up.

I have a '95 LS 205 DC and couldn't be any happier w/ its' overall performance. I "had" a '91 2.5 200 w/ a lwp bolted to a CMC power lift and ran best @ 67mph/6200rpms gps'd loaded w/ 30gals of fuel, my partner, and a large cooler full of great beverages :) I was extremely satisfied w/ the entire rig until I lost a locating pin.

Come spring, I "should" be getting a tad more w/ the current motor build. My old block needed major work, so I got in touch w/ James Perry down in Tn and he's putting some of his expertise into this build :)

*** If anyone of you guys need any block work or machining, call him!!! I drove all the way from Saint Louis, MO to meet him down in Dunlap, Tn and he is the most amazing guy around!!! It was a 850 mile round trip to get this block work done and his prices and knowledge are unbelievable compared to some of the hack jobs around STL. ***

The new block started as 2.5 150 (all I could find at time) and he raised the ports in between a pro max 225 and a 245 (260), did some light chest work, shaved the front half, hogged the cages, and going to run an intake spacer. I haven't gotten the block back just yet, but he said it'll be done w/i the coming week. I won't know until this spring on the new numbers, but this puppy should run it's a$$ off!

I know it's not a Bullet or a light hull, but has anyone got into the high 70's or broke 80 w/ this pig heavy rig and how did it handle and what were you powered w/?

I'll take some pics of the rig and add them to the gallery shortly if someone can tell me how to post them.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!

Re: LS 205 DC Opinions (JER-1 BIG BASS)

I have a 95 and love it. It rides very good in rough water and is very stable when it comes to fishing. The only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is a deck extension. I have toyed with the idea of building one but the boat is in very good, almost perfect condition and would hate to take the risk of messing something up by doing this. Mine is powered by a 200 vindicator, the fastest I have had it (GPS) is 67 and some change, and that was only once. Most of the time I am looking at 65ish. I am running a 12 inch jack plate and to be honest I can't remember what prop I put on there.

    Mercjockey,
Good luck with the motor build! I've got a '98 205DC and if I remember right the best speed I ever saw was around 80 - it's been a few years ago though. I had work done to my '96 2.5 200 similar to yours, but also added a centerhorn intake, I think it was an A48 ECU, 260 exhaust tuner, heads shaved to produce about 150lbs, factory lightweight alien cowl, and offshore mid w/ exhaust snout. It was honestly horrible with a load, especially out of the hole. It was also extremely moody! You could launch one day and run 80 and the next day it couldn't get out of its own way. To sum it up, I ended up with a race engine that needed race motor kind of tweaking - ALL THE TIME - and when you're messing with a motor you aren't fishing. I ended up pulling the centerhorn intake off and going back to the stock laser injection setup w/ stock 200 ecu and it ran better. It was reliable, but still somewhat disappointing. Last year I ended up pulling off the alien cowl, putting the stock mid back on, stock tuner, put in thick head gaskets to bring compression down - back completely stock except for the engine work and it runs better than it ever has now - overall. Better holeshot - more balls through the whole powerband. If I hit a decent straight stretch it'll run up to 70 pretty quick...might still have 75 in it with a light load. Sorry for the long post, but if you have any questions at all shoot me a pm. Maybe I can save you some time when you get your motor back.

BTW - what ecu are you going to run?
