    Question regarding a hydrofoil....

I have a 2005 Evinrude 200 H.O. I'm looking at buying a hydrofoil and installing it so that I can pull skiers and tubers better. My question is, if I install this to the cavitation plate will it void the warranty on the actual motor itself? I have 5 years left on the warranty and I don't want to void that, but I also am sick of it porpoising at 30mph and under as well. Thanks for the insight.

I don't know about warranty but that's an interesting problem, my understanding of porpoising is when the prop looses traction (slips) the nose drops then the prop grabs and on it goes but I thought this only happened at speed near WOT, I would be trying several different props first, but I may stand corrected.

Yeah i would find a cheap alum prop one pitch down from what you run now and use that when ya wanna tube. Your not gonna wanna run WOT anyways ....right?

Re: Question regarding a hydrofoil.... (.:{KC}:.)

Your right I don't intend on running WOT. I just figured it could be an easy fix for my porpoising problem as well as coming on plane a little faster. Right now I run a 26 tempest plus and don't know that I want to change props. Its cheaper to do the hydrofoil than buy a new prop, plus I don't need to change props out whenever I think I might pull someone. My main concern was the warranty and was wondering if anyone else runs one on a bass boat? Thanks.

I would contact customer service and ask that question...847-689-7090.

Seems to me you are repairing a boat problem with a bolt on the motor type of cure.

I can't believe mounting a hydrofoil would void your warranty but it will solve your problems while pulling skiers. I put a SE Sport 300 on my motor for the same reasons and I love it.

Re: Question regarding a hydrofoil.... (Team Hobbie Hut)

I don't think its a boat problem. Its a convenience problem. I don't want to have to change props everytime I want to pull someone or fish. I thought maybe this would help. I'll call them and check it out. Thanks.

    Chris
On the fastbass forum there is a guy there that sells some really nice looking hydrofoils that are not plastic they are made out of Aluminum. His username is BMan and from what I have read over there they really help with low speed planing which I think you may be having issues with.
Although the issue you are having could be the prop not being able to carry the load at slow speed. I may be wrong but isn't your current prop a 3 blade? If you were to try a 4 blade it might be even better. If you want to try my Renegade 25p or even my 23p Renegade just let me know. I don't have any problems staying on plane at slow speeds and my boat is much heavier then yours.

Motor mount wedges will help this situation, they will allow your engine more trim "in" and eliminate the bounce!

Sounds good. I will pull the 25p off the boat since I probably won't get out this week thanks to getting ready for a garage sale. I think the 23p would be way to small for your 200 HO.
