    225HO ETEC overheat question...

    Buddy of mine has a 2007 Etec 225HO that blew 2 weeks ago...Lost #6 cylinder... Evinrude sent him a complete new engine, minus a lower unit...He went out first time and the oil sensor went off...Shut it off and restarted and no more warnings...Figured it was an air bubble in the oil line as this was the first time out... Then today he is having an overheat horn and temps of over 160 degrees when idling or plowing...He has 16 psi at WOT, 12-13 psi @ 4000-45000rpm, 5 psi @ 1000rpm and 2 psi @ base idle... This overheat issue is the same issue he was having the day before it popped the first time... I think he should have the H2O pump replaced, since the lower unit is the only common part from both engine...Any suggestions?

    M/N & S/N please. He needs to get it back to the dealer to see what overheat code(s) is being set. Possibilities are: port bank, starboard bank or EMM. Can't determine where the issue is unless you know what is overheating. The oil warning definitely sounds like an air bubble because I assume it didn't reoccur. Water pressure readings look fine.

    Don't know model or serial numbers, just asking general questions...Enough guys on this board know me to know that I am not bashing, just trying to help a friend...Just seemed wierd to me to have the same type of issue with another motor, but the only thing in common between them was the lower unit...He will get it to a dealer, but we have a tourney this weekend and he will be using it beforte he can get it there...

    He is running it on a Z20 Ranger...

    I would look close at the bottom of the boat to be sure nothing is causing turbulence in front of the motor, if that all looks good I would drop the gearcase and check the water pump keeping a close eye on the water tube grommet.

    This is taking into consideration everything on the motor is right including correct map has been installed.

    He took it to the Evinrude Tech trailer @ the All-American on Saturday and they think it was mounted too high...Not for WOT running, but that the turbulence at idle and midrange speeds was an issue... They said everything else looked OK...He ran it today and it seemed to do better...Did not run very fast on top end, but did not overheat...

    How high did he have it? I run a Z21 with ETEC 225 HO and have never seen that problem. I have had the hot horn go off at speed when I cranked Bob's up to high, but never at idle and midrange speed. Mine is usually no lower than 3.5" below pad and runs at 3-2.75" below pad at speed.

    On my Stratos I jacked it up to 2.125" below pad today and still have plenty of water pressure and no hot horn...
