Mine is mounted on the rail. I wrapped the clamp so I wouldn't leave any makes on the rail should I need to remove it someday.
All depends what you want. I have no problems with mine mounted on the floor in the driver's cockpit, to the right on the rise just in front of the shifter. My GPS puck is in my driver's side rod locker.

I have a single console 209 TE. I put the puck just ahead of the console in the space between the rod locker hatch and the front of the console. I mounted the unit next to my flasher on the dash using a RAM mount. I can still reach around it to get to the key switch, and it's in a good position for viewing.
I chose the puck location because it was easy to snake the wire to the dash and the T is under the console. m
Sam, here's one idea. I like the unit where I can see it without having to look at my feet, especially when trying to see a map.

This is where Gambler mounted the GPS puck when I bought the boat. I hope this helps to answer you question.

Do you get a good signal from that location?
Thanks Sandy ! Signal good from under the console?
That's where most all of the GPS antennas are on the newer Gamblers.. That is were mine is and I don't have any problems with a signal..
I've had no problem getting a good signal with the antenna mounted there. I believe Gambler mounts all the antennas in that spot. However, I have heard some of the guys say they think they get a more accurate reading with the antenna mounted up on the hull. I had the GPS antenna for my Nordskog digital speedometer mounted behind the instrument panel, but I moved it back up on the dash. For some reason it dropped the signal more often behind the instrument panel. You can see the antenna in this pic and you can also see why I like the maps up high on the dash.![]()
