    Trailering question

Looking for some input here. Gonna be leaving Florida, heading to Ontario to do a surprise visit on the parents. Tossing around the idea of dragging the Intimidator along. I'd be doing the bearings before the trip, as well as for the trip back. It's a single axle trailer. Anybody have any experince with long hauls that they might want to share? Was looking at those "oil bath" hubs at boaters world. Anybody ever try them? Pro's, cons??

    thanks,
    Dave

The con to an oil bath hub, if it starts leaking, or loses all the oil, you're down until repaired.

Stay with the grease hubs, just replace the outside rubber boot every year, and don't overfill. I routinely make trips from Northeast Oklahoma to Lake Fork Texas, Arkansas,Missouri and lakes in Oklahoma and I've never had a bearing problem.

Took my Gambler from NE Iowa to Ft. Rucker Al. 1200 miles. one way

Single axle, and 75 MPH all the way with no problem. Clean and re squirt the bearings with good waterproof synthetic lube and let her roll.

I had no problems, and the bearings did not even heat up. You will be fine.

Did the same as above & made 2 trips to Canada & back in a month (4000 miles total)& no problems.

Servicing your hubs once a year is all that is needed and check your tire pressure. Make sure it is set to the maximum cold PSI rating on your tire. I took a trip several months ago with a lower tire pressure setting than max and I've had to replace both of my tires do to broken belts. No doubt from overheating. Have a good trip!

    Re: Trailering question (currituckbasser)

I took my Gambler with a dual axle trailer from SE Ohio to NW Minnesota, about 1100 miles RT, the first year or so I had it. Had a wheel well carpeted flap come off, easy fix. Other than having my motor toter beat to death by a bad stretch of Wisconsin highway, the only disappointment I had was:

I thought this boat would be a babe-magnet. At roadside rest stops, the only folks that came over to talk were old men (like me - and older!) who came over to admire and in a couple cases, share with me their experience with Gamblers. All well and good, just no hotties. m
