Trailer Ball

Was hooking my Gambler up on the hitch today to get some gas for my weekend fishing trip and noticed when I put the boat on the ball moved a little bit. Having an inquiring mind, I look down and noticed there was no washer or nut. First time this has ever happened and hopefully the last. I periodically check, but had not done it in a while. All of the times I checked over the years it was never in a bit loose. The moral of the story is to check your towing package.....................

so what are you saying, the lock washer actually broke and fell out from between the ball & the nut?

oooops! my mistake, it didn't register with me that the nut was missing also

that is very very lucky you noticed that!

after you get it on good,spot-weld the nut.

Lucked out on that one. I drill an 1/8 hole below the nut and put a cottor pin through for added safety. Ive seen it happen before,luckily the first guys chains held but the other guy, well lets just say the towing company swept what was left of his boat onto the roll-back. Lee NJ

A couple of months ago, I was trouble shooting my motor. I finally got to a point where I was ready to test. I hitched on real fast and took off to the lake which is about 17 minutes from my house. About 4 minutes from the lake I started thinking, "did I finish hitching up?" I pulled over and sure enough, nothing was secured. The safety cables were not latched, the electrics weren't connected, AND the tongue latch was sticking UP!! I hit some pretty bumpy intersections on the way too.

Man was I lucky. No, I was being watched over.

I have yet to this day been able to hook up to my boat and not stop and look at the connections.

Three years ago my cousins girl friend was driving home from work. A guy towing a flat-bed trailer full of lawn mowing equipment coming from the other direction turned into a drive-way. The trailer came loose, he didn't have a lock or a pin in the hitch. He turned into the drive-way but the trailer continued down the high way, she had no where to go. They had to identify my cousins girl friend by the ring on her finger, that's about all that was left of her. Always put a lock on your hitch and secure the chains or cables.

Sorry to hear that Sandy..... ....Blair pulled his boat up to my shop without the the ball locked down.... ...Luckily we caught it before the drive home...
