I just bought a 225 pro xs for my 209 and I was wondering if any of you guys with new optimax motors have went above and beyond the 4 hour break in time mercury requires. Or did you do the 4 hour break in with no problems. Thanks

Be sure to do the break in procedure exactly according to your owners manual. I'ts computer will tattle on you if you don't and ever take it in for service or repairs. Use a prop that is 1 or 2 inches in pitch smaller than what you would normally run and keep the bow trimmed down more than normal also. The quickest way to get it done is to leave all your rods at home and go for an all day boat ride. My 225 Pro XS that I just sold was still getting stronger and gaining rpm at 26 hrs on the smartcraft. It is an awesome engine!! Good luck with it!!
Refer to your owners manual, but if I remember right, rpm below 4500 will not take time off of the break in clock.

I couldnt believe that only four hours were needed to break in my 250XS. My buddies said usually takes ten so I called mercury raceing and they said do whatever the book says.
