Met a fellow Champ owner at the ramp last weekend with a 98, 221. He had bought it new in 98 and had less than 200 hours on it. It was in NICE shape and so roomy I was expecting to see markings for a heliport. Super nice guy as should be expected of a Champ owner and wish I had given him my card to contact me if he ever wanted to part with it.
I never hear much about the 221 and 223 boats. How do they perform and how long were they made? Next question is, why did they stop making them?
The 221 was made for model years 96-99. The 223 was introduced for 2000 - 2005 model years. For 2006, the 210 was introduced..and is still being built.
I have never heard anyone at the factory say specifically why the 223 was discontinued, but sales (or lack) are generally the force behind a model being continued or eliminated.
We have owners here...perhaps they will chime in. I've heard only good things about the performance.
Front deck is immense in length. You could land a helo on it! Rode in a 223 with a 300 yamaha on it, never knew we were running 72, smooth as silk. As Lea says probably lack of sales, it is truely a big water boat and isn't made for flippin' docks.
The 221 always reminded me of a 202 on steroids... I'd love to have a 221sc for my guide business, 4th or 5th guy...sure I have room...:thumbup:
