Sweet, thanks for pics,,always nice to see work in progress..You need to get Bob's to send you the Champion sticker for your JP. Does the inside of your transom have the plates? Also how did your bolt holes hold up any issues or were they sealed properly?

Yes transom plates inside (both top & bottom) & No - no issues with bolt sealing although the factory used silicone and I prefer 5200...

Mine has the ChampioN Logo plate on the top.
The bottom just has bolts. There are big washers on the bottom bolts

    Is that fine?

Upper bolts have the nut on the engine side. (outside)
Lower bolts have the nut on the boat side. (inside)

(I might have that reversed, I don't remember)

Cool! I am sure your glad to see that. I would stay with marine silicone, that 5200 will definetly seal it up but it will not come off easy and could adhere to gel and not come off. I know I did it to my hull and it peeled it right off. Maybe you got better luck than me.

My '96 181 was/is the same way & never had an issue... Main thing is to keep it dry...

    Re: Action... (Gunnar)

Yeah it seams fine that way.. Do they only put on the bottom plate, if it was rigged at the factory?

Did ChampioN only supply one plate to the dealer per boat if they are rigging?

I don't really care now tha tI know that I am not the only one with a ChampioN rigged this way.

MY Parent's boat doesn't have a plate at all and it does just fine.

Is there a reson for reversing the bolts from top to bottom or is it just a ease thing?

At one time, there was an issue with JP continuing to rise too far (I forget exact details) so they somehow set bolts to prevent this. Newer rigs do not have the Champion logo transom plates, but do have other support. I would have to check what is on my boat, as I got the after-market fix from Bob's.

    Very, very nice job, Gunnar!!!!!!

Why? Are you having trouble with the Atlas plates?

I changed mine around from the washers to aluminum plates a buddy made for me because of the shallow running I do in the river. My washers were sucked in from a few things I have hit over the years and for me this was the right thing to do.
