Maybe a mile or two, if you could go back with a 200, I would.

Have a 1993 190 with a Rude Intruder 150HP. I love the engine as these vintage Rudes are pretty stout for 150HP. I'm working on 60MPH with the 150. My only regret is not having a 200HP, as that is what the hull is rated for. Might see anywhere from 2-4 MPH's difference between the 175 and 200HP depending on setup.

Got a 200 rude on mine and wouldnt want less. Rather have a 225 or better! Wish i knew how to make my 200 Vindicator into a 225 without too much trouble. You can always back off the throttle, if your wide open then thats it. I gues it depends on the water you run too, i make some pretty long runs up in Sturgeon Bay every spring (Chambers Island) and such so faster is better. Down side is fuel consumption.

Can you enlighten us?![]()
Please, i want to know too. Ive been told that its more than carbs. I had actually found a full set including linkages, but then was told all im gonna do is drink gas and not get any power from it. Most suggested buying a 225 and putting the 200 hood on it or re sticker it, in which case why not go 250. If your gonna get busted, may as well enjoy it for a while before hand.

I've always been told that the main difference between the 200 and 225 looper 3.0's was just the carb size. The 225 HO, 250 blocks have different port timing. I had a set of 225 carbs that I never put on my 200, but I ended up selling to a friend who has a 200 on an Allison. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Did he notice any difference in performance?

It would be nice to know. I was also told that the carbs are identical except for jetting. Seems everyone has an opinion on what is the difference, but non of them are qualified to back it up. Would like to hear it straight from the OEM, but that will never happen.

Dave, you wouldn't believe what can be done to really "Tweak" one but for every tweak takes away from reliablility. Shaving and CC's heads, opening up port timings, cleaning intakes etc. All them guys do is push it to the limit and then in 100 hours rebuild/refresh over and over. All a two stroke is is an air pump, you can't make power if you can't push it out.If someone doesn't know what they are doing with jetting and think they do your $10K motor has just been turned into an anchor.

Fred, that was my point. I know you don't like to talk about modding stock engines.

I'm with Fred on this one. I would leave my engine all stock. Unless you just have money to throw away I wouldn't do it. All for another 2 or so MPH?
http://www.scream&fly.com web site ---- lots of OMC/J-RUDE mod fans there -- can make a brick float & elephant fly. As Fred stated as compression builds it has to go out before it make good power as this happens reliablity is lowered .Can get alot out of removing unneeded weight/tackle and setup. But if a guys understands what he is getting...then it sure is nice to have a hot ride.

If you want a hopped up OMC send it down to Monty Racing. Gordon can go from mild to wild. If someone doesn't know what they are doing with a die grinder your motor is toast also.
