Friend -- Triton Vs Champion (Ranger in the Conversation Too)

    Ok,

I was a little annoyed when a friend of mine told me that he was in a really rough riding ChampioN.

He has a Triton. He told me that he ran in an older ChampioN down by Starved Rock in Illinois. Anyways, he told me that the ChampioN was very fast compared to the Triton, but he said it beat the crap out of him like his old Ranger would. He also admitted that ChampioN is a proven hull that has been known for its ride so he was a little confused.

What do you think it was? An unskilled driver? I am not a skilled driver and I never feel like I am being beat to hell in my ChampioN.

Is Triton known for being a really stable ride?

He said that maybe it was because the ChampioN and Ranger were older hulls and that his Triton being newer, has a newer design. He could not remember what model ChampioN he was in.

Now, don't go running to mom or bashing brands here.. I am just dumbfounded at his comment and wanted some honest discussion. Not trying to start a war here.

Starved Rock area sucks in the summer no matter what boat you are in.

Sorry had to fix that myself. After all I've been told and nothing I've seen, I am now a believer.

Hey you ever fish the root river in Racine? Yes, I know you cannot bring your boat on it.. Well I suppose down by the Racine harbor you can tool around the marinas. I am talking more like by the Horlick Dam though.

I've fished the dam by a hotel where K and another road come by that either takes you out to 36 or the other road goes through Mt Pleasant. It sucks. Did it when I was a kid. Tons of illegal snagging and on the weekends it gets crowded and people have short fuses.

K (Northwestern Ave.) turns into 38 (Northwestern Ave).. The Damn is by 38 and MM.

I fished above the damn the other day just for kicks.. I caught a few bass actually.. Nothing to keep..

Just wondering because they say that river is like a top rated river for fly fishing.. I didn't know if you were into that.. The DNR has been watching that area pretty heavily this year. I always see them there so I bet you are right about the snagging.

Driver. That's all I've got to say about that.

edit: Doesn't matter what water you're on, big, little, moving or still. Last weekend I was out and hit swells that made my stomach contents come up so high I could taste them. GF was hanging on for dear life, her hands hurt so bad she couldn't hang onto the ropes while I got the truck. BUT, BUT after that ride WE WERE DRY, not a single tackle tray did move, soda cans were in the holders still and didnt' have to have kidney treatments (whatever those are). So, I gotta say, I am by no means a top driver, but hitting 3 footers at 35-40mph (correctly), is not an issue at all.

So, from my humble experience, and a bit of guts, I let the boat do the work, I just worked the boat.

PS, take Pat's advise and use it. Get comfortable with your rig and let it help you. Freaking amazing.

To Slinkeey, if you don't remember nothing else , when talking to a person always consider the source. You don't have to defend a Champion , if they don't know about them :oh well:

Down by Starved Rock you say? what kind of rough water do you see out there? I spent the last half of the summer bow fishing down there and other than boat wakes there aint a wave out there most of the time. IF he was is a ChampioN I would have to say shame on the driver. I have had MANY compliments on how smooth my boat rides and I am by far what I would consider a great driver... keep the speed in check and the trim right and it like your riding in a 70's CaddY!!! only the Champ will stop faster

Will you please take me out and teach me how to drive a Skeeter and a Triton?
I never could get either one of them to ride.

I can give you a good ride in a Ranger and I can take you for a ride in a Bullet that will make you think about selling your ChampioN ...but I will have to actually drive it!

For a Champion to ride rough....its got to be driver or conditions were such that you should have just stayed home! I'm not sure I could make mine ride rough if I wanted to.
