Something for the top of the livewell divider on 2004 198

Not sure if this will make sense but there is a gap at the very top of the livewell above the divider. Now normally a fish would not be able to get up through there - but when you run big water - you want to have water right to the top to cushion the fish and I have had squeakers swim from one side to the other via the top gap. Wondering if anyone had conceived of a good rot-proof solution to fill the gap to prevent any skinny ones from jumping sides.

    Thanks,
    Charles

P.S. Yes i really do box fish that small thank you very much. lol

Yep! go to a building store and in the plumbing section pick up a piece to foam water pipe insulation.. cut it to length and snap it on the divider wall top.

    This is the stuff:

That's what I did. It also keeps big pike from getting all scraped up on that center plate.

I learned the key to pacifying northerns is to hold them by the eyes...

    With vice grips.

I don't allow those slimy, stinkin' gators in my boat, period! You hook one, you take it off over the side. Man, I hate them things and I catch way too many of them.

I had a "noodle". One of those things kids use to swim with. I cut it and used it in the same way as the water pipe insulation.

Yeah, I've even been cut up by the inside gill plates on those things. I have a whole box of washable cotton gloves in my Champ.

Just to let you guys know - it didn't even come close to filling the gap and when I finally stuck my head in there for a real close look - I was frankly embarassed to be a Champion owner. Will post up some pics. There is NO POINT to have the divider with the amount of free space in there for the fish to get through. I thought it was just squeakers, but now that I've seen the hole - a 3 lber could squeeze through it.

Geez, just an absolutely terrible design with zero thought put in by the designers. It's very obvious they don't fish draw tournaments or care very much about keeping the livewells seperate.

I have only had it happen once or twice in the 191 and I have owned it since 99. Also the only fish I put in the well are ones that are going to the table as I don't fish Tx's. Nothing much over 14" goes in the well. Maybe somebody put the wrong divider in your live well?? I even had 60 Crappie in one side a few weeks ago and none transferred to the other side!

Re: Something for the top of the livewell divider on 2004 198 (siskiyoucrash)

Does your livewell fill right to the top where the water kinda oozes out the top?

I've been fortunate and I think the bigger fish are better at holding themselves closer to the bottom of the tank as the only ones I've had go from side to side were squeakers. The problem is - I think my rider and I could both be disqualified from the event if a fish manages to get over from one side to the other - at least that is how I read the rule for keeping fish seperate.
