Re: My 176 champ-1991 model cherry cond (rid 05 198)

Not to hijack your post, but since everyone is posting their old 176s, here's a few of my 90 176 that I sold in in 2003. These pix were shot a month or two before the sale. Note the reflection in the cowling on the last one ...

I had a 1989 176 with a 150 merc xr4 on it, that boat moved. I think I was the 3rd owner, and it was in great shape.

Here is some video I found of a later model 17 and a half foot Champion with a 150 VMAX running across a lake.

Was your boat Gunmetal with a grey hull and red pins? We live pretty close to each other and I sold a boat just like yours. I would have been the original owner. I sold mine to a fireman from Milwaukee named Jack. He had a place on lake Puckaway.

When I had mine it was really fast. I could turn a 26 pitch Lazer II prop at close to 5700 rpm's.

That little 17'6" boat blew the doors off many, many boats in tournaments. I have never had another boat that had the lift that that boat had. It really handled rough water very well too. I still have pictures of it around here somewhere's. Of the 20 boats that I have had over the past 40 years, I think that was my favoite. I saw the boat on Lost lake a few years back.

Awesome pics!!!! I miss the good old days when most of us could actually afford to buy what they were building. Still amazes me how everyone has priced the blue collar working man out of a new boat as they ponder what happend to the boating industry.

    Re: (BalsaBee)

You know we just don't recognize the most significant moments of our lives while they're happening. Back then I thought, well, there'll be other boats. I didn't realize that this was the best boat that I would ever own. This boat, those memories: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.
