I've had both and both suited me just fine. I would be hard-pressed to choose between the 203 and my 198!!!!
Been saying for a long time I would love to see them bring back the 86 inch beam rigs back with modern materials similar to what Bass Cat has done with the Pantara.

Well I must admit: Yep I like the more "junk in the trunk"(Wide body's).
After collecting a tackle store worth of gear: I got to have the storage.

We were lucky to get them to bring the 203 LTD a few years back.![]()
That's like picking a favorite child! Good thing I only have a 203 and not a 210.
I can't cast a vote because I am afraid my 203 is listening!
Just got a 1998 203 Love it only wish I could have used it more before it got so darn cold.![]()

The great thing about a Champion is they ride great whether there the narrow body or wide body boat. Now how many boat co. can say that..
I love the wide body. If I had to go back to the narrow one, I'd switch brands. Wasn't over all pleased with fishability. Sorry, don't beat me up.
I have to agree with RJ (unfortunatley). The narrow Champs are no doubt the best handling and riding (i've owned both) but for me and probably most of us we could never drive the skinny Champs to their max potential. I like the wide ones personally for storage and stability. I used to carry ALOT of stuff fishing tournaments and don't like "stuff" laying out. Mine or my back seaters.
I feel like I'm in a barge in a 206,,my 184 became too skinny after I gained weight,,,soooooo I love my 203. Wide or narrow I loive my Champions.![]()

I had to pick Skinny...Since I am on my 3 rd....
1990 176DCR with a 175 intruder
1997 186DC with a 175 Merc
2004 203 with a 250 yammie
Favorite of all time was the 176 .....what an awesome boat that I'm sorry I sold
Wow 62% prefer the narrower Mt. Home champ so far. Who ever the owner of Champion is after the first of the year might want to find and older boat hull and make some new molds. A new redesigned top cap with an older proven hull, what a combination.
looked at a boat about 10 years ago that used Champion old hull, but I don't think they are around anymore. I believe it was a Hawk.
Hawks not even close to a champ. The only thing in common is John Storie.
Maybe I drive the Champ an hour during the day, maybe 2 hours if I'm on Lake Powell.....the other 6 or 7 hours are spent on the front deck fishing.....I like the wide, stable platform.

I have had several 90 inch beam champs. I now have a 198. Boats are compromises but the new champs are a pretty darn good compromise between ride and storage. It would be hard to go back to a skinny champ, although I do give them the edge in ride. The storage is just great and the huge deck and stable fishing platform would be hard to give up.
I have to agree, the skinny champs are great boats and ride great but lacked the storage and stability that the wider body Champs have and the wide bodies ride great, i have no complaints in 3fters.. I look at these boats as the evolution of the modern bass fishermen and there needs or wants on the water..

Obviously, you cannot please everyone all the time. However, that said, there were many complaints by prospective buyers, about narrower Champs being "tippy" when fishing...
Additionally, you will find many brands now going wider, and especially to the "beam forward" design. There's a reason for that, and it is consumer-driven. In 08, Champion brought back the 203 with the 90" beam because so many folks claimed that this was what they wanted. But, sales did not justify.....so...![]()
