I am having fantasies about repowering my 2001 Champion 190SX (F&S). My current motor is a 2001 Merc 2.5L 200 EFI. It has run flawlessly since day 1. I am somewhat interested in one of the new quieter high tech motors. I am giving the following serious consideration: The new Mec OPTI 200 PRO XS, Verado 200 I-4, Etech Standard 200 (60%) V-6, and the E-tech 200 HO. Except for the E-tech standard 200, all of these weigh at least 80 lbs more than my current motor.
The 190SX was designed and rated for 200 before the advent of these heavier engines. I also have an R&R manual 8" jackplate. Will this boat handle the new heavier engines safetly? Any ideas on how my handling will chance? Will I need to go to less setback with a heavier engine?
Some folks say it is not a good use of money to repower an older boat.
My goal is to get a quieter engine with better fuel economy and less emmissions, and to keep my performance level as my current motor.
Thank you
