    Powering locators

Both of my locators are powered off the trolling batteries. I always thought they should get their juice from the starting batt. I've having some weird things happen with both locators and I'm thinking this is the cause. The only reason I can see doing this is if Champ feels the units draw too much juice from the starting batt to turn over a DFI motor. Thoughts??

Most boats I have been around power a fuse panel off of the starting battery. I always thought it was done that way so that it would recharge itself every time you made a run down the lake.

The ONLY thing that should be on the trolling batteries is the trolling motor. All accessories should be powered by the cranking battery.

I've run Optis on last 2 Champs. Zero issues with starting after running accessories all day...

On every boat I've had, the trolling motor is on a stand-alone battery; and everything else was wired/fused to the starting battery - which generally has a much higher cranking power, and is charged when the big motor is running.

I'd move those electronics power leads....if it were me....

Running you electronics off of the TM batteries can induce noise when the TM is running.

That's what I thought too. Seems there are guys running a 3 batt boat total, 36V TM, claiming no probs with interference. I personally can't see how that could be.

    Re: Powering locators (HaulinBass)

Guys (and gal) I feel like an idiot The leads to the trolling batteries that I thought were for the locators are for the charger. When I looked tonight it dawned on me what they were. The fuse holder looking deals is what threw me.

I don't know what's going on then........my 510 at the bow will flash 62.5' and won't pick up bottom for several minutes when powering up. This has the transducer on the TM and I make sure its in the water before turning on

The 520 in the console has the transducer glassed in the hull and in 25' of open water will flash between .9 and 1.0' for a couple minutes at a time. Doesn't do it all the time but usually once per trip.

With it being two separate transducers, I don't think that's the issue. Any thoughts on what the cause might be? Would low voltage cause these issues?

I'm not super satisfied with my Lowrance electronics so far

when does the interference happen? is it constant? or intermittent?

knowing this can help the board figure out your problem. A simple RF magnet may fix your interference or could be something else.

Are both units on at the same time? That can cause major signal overlap and confuse both units.

When I have problems with the 510, the 520 is on. When I have problems with the 520, the 510 is off if that makes sense. That make sense??
