Info on Evinrude Serial #

My buddy has a nephew with a boat for sale. The nephew is selling his boat and it has an Evinrude 225 HO with serial # 050572501. What can all you 'Rude guys tell me about this motor? I was hoping it'd be an ETEC, but I dont think that's the case. I have a 97' Johnson Venom 225 and have had a lot of problems, so I'm worried about reliability. I know it's OMC vs. Bomadier, but not sure if they've ironed out all the problems. I hear ETEC is the way to go if you can afford it. Let me know what you guys think. I appreciate all your feedback. Please check the serial number, you have posted to many numbers.
