Why is my 204 DCX only rated for a 200 and other 20 ft boats are rated for any v-6 or at least 225 HP

Probably the same reason my 93 201 is, but who knows what that reason is. You are the first one I've run across that also has a 200HP placard on a 20' Champ. NADA also show a 2000 HP rating for the 201 in 1993 only.
It should be V6, but you never know what the sticker girl was thinking that day.
Call up C&O and get a new decal.

Horsepower rating besides being based on torque the engine develops is also determined by the wieght distribution of the boat and also weight of particular motors ( e.i. 2 strokes compared to 4 strokes). I have a friend with 04 Triton TR 20 (beleave that to be the model) and he has a Yamaha 225 four stroke on it and has a hard time getting up on on plane unless his front livewell is full and his tackle is distributed right. That boat is rated for the horsepower, and maybe his set up is wrong or the wieght distrubution of gear loaded is screwed up but it sure looks like that 4 stroke engine is just too friggin heavy for his boat. My partner's got the same boat a couple of years older with 225 efi mercury and he has no problem with it.
