    Opinion of 190DC

Just purchased a 1991 Champion 190DC and wondered what the reputation of this particular model has been? I have only fished 2 times in the boat and so far find it very comfortable and dry riding. Also, this is my first Champion, I have had Rangers, Skeeters, Stratos, etc. over the past 30 yrs. Will probably buy another new boat down the road just not sure what I'll buy yet.

    Re: Opinion of 190DC (Boat4Life)

    Welcome,
I found a 95 190 DCX elite this fall - also my 1st Champion. Wanted one since I was a kid so I did a lot of shopping and asked a lot of questions. There's great info here, probably the most informed group of people on this topic anywhere. You can search old posts on any topic of interest.

The 190 was introduced in 1990. Designed by Bill Pace, it was the first "Wide" Champ and 200 hp rated at 19 ft. Beam is 89 in. vs the 86 inch earlier models. Comes in classic rear tank and dual tank configs. It has the 3 place bench seat that I don't think went on any other model. It also was available in "all composite" which is the liner boat you hear about. Rides big in a small package. No performance negatives with the model. Not fast but not slow either. Several people here know alot more about these than I do, but that's my 2 cents. Enjoy!

    Jeff

I just purchased my first champ this past fall. It is a 1993 190 DC. I have only had it out a couple of times before winter, but is one fine ride. It's a great handling boat and really performs well in choppy water. The last day I had it out in October, we had 20 mph winds. Cut right through the white caps without any problems. I stayed perfectly dry as well. I am new to bass boating, and don't have too much experience on other models, but feel Champion is one of the better boats out there.

I also have a 1993 190 and love it. It has a mercury 200 efi on it. What kind of gps speeds are you guys getting with your 190s. Also how do you know if one is a composite boat?

Mine has a 95 200 Magnum EFI w/ new powerhead. I'm still breaking it in and have only seen low 60's so far on short bursts.

The original factory delivery/order paperwork said "all composite", which indicated the liner option at the time. Other than that, you can tap on the sides of the hull and tell by the brick-like solid sound, or you can pull the floor drains and see the liner material. That one's a little harder to quantify. Lea and a few others may know a trick or two about codes within the boat ID tag. Pat Goff is the real authority on all this stuff though...

    Re: Opinion of 190DC (jpuryear)

The only thing I can tell for sure from the HIN# is the place it was built, the month and year it was built, and the model year. The other 5 digits are supposedly a code to the model and the number built to date, but I don't have a clue to the model code. I think it's the 1st 2 digits, with the number built being the next 3 digits...not sure. Pat may know...

    For ex: TSB12345J405

    TSB...built in Mtn Home, AR
12345...model code and number built to date (a mystery to me)
    J4...Built in October, 2004
    05...Model year 2005

How long are the 190's? Are they 19' even, or 18' 8"?
