    2006 Etec 90hp or 2006 Mercury 90hp ELPTO, help??

    Hello guys.
I found a 2006 90 HP ETEC new in crate 2006 installed with gauges and prop tested for $6,500. Do you think this is a good deal. It's local here in Michigan. Sales tax $390, makes it $6,890. Minus trade in $600 AND MINUS $360 Rebate it totals $5,930 total out the door? I already have 2002 OMC Controls installed.

Is it worth it or should I buy the 2006 Mercury 90 HP ELPTO 2-stroke with 30 minutes on it for $5,200 plus $200 shipping and $100 for Remote Control (trading in my OMC control), new tanks. $ 5600 approx. total.
    What do you think?

I was just told that Rusty may have a better deal on an Etec?, I'm not too sure how to get a hold of him. Any help?

    Thanks

    Nick

Thanks guys, I was told to talk to Rusty from another member but I don't know how to reach him. Can anyone help?. I don't know if Rusty is a Etec Dealer or not, I think it's a good deal too. I'll be stopping by there next weekend to see it and put some money down on it. I just wanted to know what you all thought about it.

    Thanks much.

Don"t worry about Rusty,he flies by night & drops by every now & then.Kind of likes to stir the pot if you know what I mean. Everything he knows ethier came from Dale Carnegay? or Tohotsu. Just listen to what these other guys say & you will be fine.

PS-Rusty will be by soon & there isn"t anyone any better.----------at drinking Bud.

    I"ll hear from this!

    Rusty is the best period.Amen!

I love it. It's great to see how much fun we all have on these boards. I enjoy every night down here in the Hole (as the wife calls it) reading and writing with you guys. I absolutley believe and respect the advise I received from these guys. just thought I'd ask about Rusty cuz he was referred by someone. I'll be buying the Etec based on what was said here.

    Thanks much guys,

Man, if that motor was a 115 or 150, I'd tell you to take the Merc so I could get the Etec. The worst is that I don't even need a new motor, but that deal is just to good to pass up. That is if it were a 115 or 150 (90's to small for my boat).

You better jump on that Etec !!!! I'd think about doing the 4 yr extended warranty instead of the rebate just for resale later. That is a very good deal...

You can reach Rusty (John Laws) at this number (615-452-1470). He is a tech at C&O Marine #2.

As has been said, super guy.

YEah, you guys are getting me all worked up about this. I called theguy earlier today and told him I'm in and will buy it next weekend. I've been looking around for a new motor now for four months. Every night, hours and hours, hitting local Marina's around here on the weekends and besides that Merc ELPTO found nothing worth the eventual problems with the wife. But what the heck, "I need it" and time heals they say!!!!. I'll let you all know if that statement is true by Spring. If you all are up north of Detroit on teh St. Claire River and see a guy in a FUNKY overdone Duck boat with a big smile on his face, WAVE, it'll be me.....

    Thanks for the help

Damn, where was that deal when I bought my 90 about a month ago?? That IS a screaming good deal. Don't wait till the weekend, give the guy a deposit RIGHT NOW! I paid significantly more than that under the Evinrude Pro program, and couldn't get the warranty or rebate.

The 90 Opti weighs quite a bit more than teh 90 E-TEC. I'd pay a few hundred extra for the E-TEC in a heartbeat.

I think you're right, after talking to all your guys I'd hate to loose the deal. I think I'll call him in the morning and put down a credit card deposit sight unseen. Then go see it next weekend. I can't thank you all enough. The information you all offer is GREAT. I almost can't wait for an engine problem to happen so I get some good free advise.....

    thanks again, all of you.

I'll keep you all posted as to whether something goes bad on this deal.

    Thanks

    Re: 2006 Etec 90hp or 2006 Mercury 90hp ELPTO, help?? (RUSTY63)

    Hey Rusty,
I'm told I have a pretty good deal on a new 2006 Etec 90hp. From what all the guys say and from research I've done in the last few months, I think $6,500 sounds good. Plus the MI Sales Tax I'll have to pay as I'm from MI. of $390. This Dealer will set it up and help me prop test my boat and has said that he'll make sure any computer upgrades are installed as well. He said he could give me $600 bucks for my used 1997 60 hp Johnson that has bad compression in at least 1 cylinder and won't get me on plain anymore. It has not blown up but only becuase I shut it down first. Do you think $600 is fair?. My insurance guy (independant guy gired by my Insurance) said it was due to a failing or failed VRO Pump as each Cylinder had some sign of scoring. It does start and is not frozen up.

I'm told that if / when fixed it could sell for $2,800 tops so it's not worth much in it's current condition.
    What do you think?

Should I buy this motor or can a better deal be had?

    Thanks

    Nick
